Detektion des Kartoffelspindelknollen Viroids mit Hilfe der Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011

Highly efficient construction of infectious viroid-derived clones

open access: yesPlant Methods, 2019
Background Viroid research generally relies on infectious cDNA clones that consist of dimers of the entire viroid sequence. At present, those dimers are generated by self-ligation of monomeric cDNA, a strategy that presents several disadvantages: (i) low

Peach latent mosaic viroid in naturally infected sweet cherry trees in southern Italy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Horticultural Science, 2002
Peach latent mosaic viroid (PLMVd) was found in naturally infected sweet cherry trees grown in commercial orchards in southern Italy. The viroid was detected in nucleic acid extracts of symptomless leaves by molecular hybridization with a PLMVd cRNA ...

Transformation of Seed Non-Transmissible Hop Viroids in Nicotiana benthamiana Causes Distortions in Male Gametophyte Development

open access: yesPlants, 2021
Viroids are small, non-coding, parasitic RNAs that promote developmental distortions in sensitive plants. We analyzed pollen of Nicotiana benthamiana after infection and/or ectopic transformation with cDNAs of citrus bark cracking viroid (CBCVd), apple ...

Application of RNA silencing to plant disease resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
To reduce the losses caused by plant pathogens, plant biologists have adopted numerous methods to engineer resistant plants. Among them, RNA silencing-based resistance has been a powerful tool that has been used to engineer resistant crops during the ...

Engineering Viroid Resistance [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2015
Viroids are non-encapsidated, non-coding, circular, single-stranded RNAs (ssRNAs). They are classified into the families Pospiviroidae and Avsunviroidae, whose members replicate in the nucleus and chloroplast of plant cells, respectively. Viroids have a wide host range, including crop and ornamental plants, and can cause devastating diseases with ...

A universal oligonucleotide microarray with a minimal number of probes for the detection and identification of viroids at the genus level. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
A major challenge in the agricultural industry is the development of techniques that can screen plant samples for viroid infection. Microarrays are promising in this regard, as their high throughput nature can potentially allow for the detection of a ...

RNA Viral Community in Human Feces: Prevalence of Plant Pathogenic Viruses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The human gut is known to be a reservoir of a wide variety of microbes, including viruses. Many RNA viruses are known to be associated with gastroenteritis; however, the enteric RNA viral community present in healthy humans has not been described.

Potential impacts of plant pests and diseases on trees and forests in the United Kingdom

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
The UK Plant Health Risk Register (PHRR) has so far identified 581 Plant Pests and Diseases (PPDs) that could invade the United Kingdom and affect 74 tree species. The combined effects of multiple invasions on trees are little understood and seldom considered.

ViroidDB: a database of viroids and viroid-like circular RNAs

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2021
Abstract We introduce ViroidDB, a value-added database that attempts to collect all known viroid and viroid-like circular RNA sequences into a single resource. Spanning about 10 000 unique sequences, ViroidDB includes viroids, retroviroid-like elements, small circular satellite RNAs, ribozyviruses, and retrozymes.
