A Collaborative Virtual Environment for the Simulation of Temporal Bone Surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We describe a framework for training-oriented simulation of temporal bone surgery. Bone dissection is simulated visually and haptically, using a hybrid data representation that allows smooth surfaces to be maintained for graphic rendering while volumetric data is used for haptic feedback.

Adding Sociality to Virtual Pedestrian Groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present a new method, Social Groups and Navigation (SGN), to simulate the walking behavior of small pedestrian groups in virtual environments. SGN is the first method to simulate group behavior on both global and local levels.

Cadaveric Temporal Bone Dissection: Is It Obsolete Today?

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2014
Introduction Traditionally, surgical training in otology, is imparted by dissecting harvested human cadaveric temporal bones. However, maintenance of a cadaveric temporal bone laboratory is expensive and carries risk of exposure to infection.

Virtual haptic system for intuitive planning of bone fixation plate placement

open access: yesInformatics in Medicine Unlocked, 2017
Placement of pre-contoured fixation plate is a common treatment for bone fracture. Fitting of fixation plates on fractured bone can be preoperatively planned and evaluated in 3D virtual environment using virtual reality technology.

Towards Social Behavior in Virtual-Agent Navigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present Social Groups and Navigation (SGN), a method to simulate the walking behavior of small pedestrian groups in virtual environments. SGN is the first method to simulate group behavior on both global and local levels of an underlying planning ...

Application of digital technology in diagnosis and treatment of dentofacial deformities

open access: yes口腔疾病防治, 2019
Dento⁃maxillofacial deformity refers to an abnormal relationship of the volume or shape of the upper and lower jaw bones with the other bones of the craniofacial area. Its correction mainly involves hard tissues, such as the jaws and teeth.

High-energy synchrotron-radiation-based X-ray micro-tomography enables non-destructive and micro-scale palaeohistological assessment of macro-scale fossil dinosaur bones

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, 2023
Palaeohistological analysis has numerous applications in understanding the palaeobiology of extinct dinosaurs. Recent developments of synchrotron-radiation-based X-ray micro-tomography (SXMT) have allowed the non-destructive assessment of ...
