Virtual objects are objects thought up by a thinking individual. Although 20th-century philosophy has tried to ban them from ontology, they make it impossible to account for the truth of sentences such as Apollo was worshipped in the island of Delos, in which a property is assigned to the nonexisting, virtual entity Apollo.

Operator localization of virtual objects [PDF]
Errors in the localization of nearby virtual objects presented via see-through, helmet mounted displays are examined as a function of viewing conditions and scene content. Monocular, biocular or stereoscopic presentation of the virtual objects, accommodation (required focus), subjects' age, and the position of physical surfaces are examined.

Morsels: Explicit Virtual Memory Objects
The tremendous growth of RAM capacity - now exceeding multiple terabytes - necessitates a reevaluation of traditional memory-management methods, which were developed when resources were scarce. Current virtual-memory subsystems handle address-space regions as sets of individual 4-KiB pages with demand paging and copy-on-write, resulting in significant ...

Real-Time Occlusion Handling in Augmented Reality Based on an Object Tracking Approach
To produce a realistic augmentation in Augmented Reality, the correct relative positions of real objects and virtual objects are very important. In this paper, we propose a novel real-time occlusion handling method based on an object tracking approach ...

Virtual view networks for object reconstruction [PDF]
All that structure from motion algorithms "see" are sets of 2D points. We show that these impoverished views of the world can be faked for the purpose of reconstructing objects in challenging settings, such as from a single image, or from a few ones far apart, by recognizing the object and getting help from a collection of images of other objects from ...
