A comparative study of virtual prototyping and physical prototyping

International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management, 2004
The new product development process makes use of both virtual and physical prototypes. There is an increasing need to reduce the time and cost required when converting from one to the other. There is also a potential need to use them both simultaneously.

Automated Analysis of Virtual Prototypes at Electronic System Level

ACM Great Lakes Symposium on VLSI, 2019
The exponential increase in functionality of System-on-Chips (SoCs) and reduced Time-to-Market (TTM) requirements have significantly altered the typical design and verification flow.

Towards early validation of firmware-based power management using virtual prototypes: A constrained random approach

Forum on Specification and Design Languages, 2017
Efficient power management is very important for modern System-on-Chip to satisfy the conflicting demands on high performance and low power consumption. Nowadays, global power management is mostly implemented in firmware (FW) due to the relative ease of ...

Rapid prototyping of virtual environments

Computing in Science & Engineering, 2000
The goal of virtual reality is to fully or partially immerse a human in a visually coupled environment. By tracking the position and orientation of the user with sensors designed for this purpose and by coupling these measurements with a high-performance computer graphics system, we can generate a computer-synthesized view of a virtual environment that

A prototype virtual haptic bronchoscope

IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and System, 2003
In this paper, we describe the design of the hardware and software for a virtual bronchoscope with force feedback. A haptic interface allows surgeons to feel the reaction force of virtual pneumonic surgery as if they were touching the area directly. We present novel algorithms for haptic force rendering, and examine its ability to display force.

360proto: Making Interactive Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality Prototypes from Paper

International Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2019
We explore 360 paper prototyping to rapidly create AR/VR prototypes from paper and bring them to life on AR/VR devices. Our approach is based on a set of emerging paper prototyping templates specifically for AR/VR.

Virtual prototyping of cellular phones

Software: Practice and Experience, 1999
Software prototyping offers a fast, flexible and cost-effective alternative to physical prototyping during the analysis and design stages of commercial electronic products. This paper describes a software platform implemented to facilitate the virtual prototyping of cellular phone models at the analysis and design stages.
