Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...

Analyzing plant stress granules in response to plant viruses [PDF]
Plant viruses have the ability to redirect host machineries and processes to establish a productive infection. Virus-host interactions lead to the reprogramming of the plant cell cycle and transcriptional controls, inhibition of cell death pathways ...

Autoimmune neurological conditions associated with Zika virus infection [PDF]
Zika virus (ZIKV) is an emerging flavivirus rapidly spreading throughout the tropical Americas. mosquitoes is the principal way of transmission of the virus to humans. ZIKV can be spread by transplacental, perinatal, and body fluids.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

RBM39 shapes innate immunity by controlling the expression of key factors of the interferon response
Background and aimsThe contribution of innate immunity to clearance of viral infections of the liver, in particular sensing via Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3), is incompletely understood. We aimed to identify the factors contributing to the TLR3 response in

Virus-host protein interactions in RNA viruses [PDF]
RNA viruses exhibit small-sized genomes that only encode a limited number of viral proteins, but still establish complex networks of interactions with host cell components. Here we summarize recent reports that aim at understanding general features of RNA virus infection networks at the protein level.

Hepatitis C virus 3'UTR regulates viral translation through direct interactions with the host translation machinery. [PDF]
The 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of hepatitis C virus (HCV) messenger RNA stimulates viral translation by an undetermined mechanism. We identified a high affinity interaction, conserved among different HCV genotypes, between the HCV 3'UTR and the host ...

Adult‐Onset Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis Presenting With Subacute Cognitive Deficits
ABSTRACT We describe the case of a 41‐year‐old man diagnosed with adult‐onset subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE). The patient presented with subacute progressive cognitive deficits and a neuropsychological profile indicating predominant frontoparietal dysfunction. MRI showed only mild parietal‐predominant cerebral atrophy.
