An antibody for fighting Junin virus

C&EN Global Enterprise, 2016
Argentine hemorrhagic fever was discovered in the 1950s, and it hasn’t spread beyond Argentina’s borders since. But the illness’s mortality rate—which can be as high as 30%—has public health officials worried. The fever is caused by Junin virus and transmitted by rodents through their saliva and droppings, so it could spread outside its current range ...

Involvement of vacuolar proton ATPase in Junin virus multiplication

Archives of Virology, 2001
The role of vacuolar-proton ATPase (V-H+ ATPAse) on Junin virus (JV) replication was evaluated by analyzing the effect of specific inhibitors of the enzyme activity on different steps of virus multiplication cycle. The presence of the macrolide antibiotics bafilomycin A1 and concanamycin A during the first two hours of infection caused a significant ...

Junin virus access to CNS by extraneural rat inoculation

Journal of Medical Virology, 1986
AbstractThis study was carried out to determine the pathways along which two strains of Junin virus (JV), the pathogenic XJV and the attenuated XJC13V, reach the CNS following IP inoculation of 2‐day‐old rats. A sequential study of infectivity and antigen distribution in peritoneal macrophages, spleen, and brain was performed.

Contrasuppressor cells induced by Junin virus.

Immunology, 1990
Intracerebral inoculation of Junin virus (JV) in all susceptible mouse models available induces a lethal meningoencephalitis compatible with a delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) immune response. In contrast, adult BALB/c mice prove resistant to infection and no DTH response is seen.
