Epidemiology and fitness effects of wood mouse herpesvirus in a natural host population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Rodent gammaherpesviruses have become important models for understanding human herpesvirus diseases. In particular, interactions between murid herpesvirus 4 and Mus musculus (a non-natural host species) have been extensively studied under controlled ...

ALKBH3 m1A Demethylase Deficiency Reduces Alzheimer's Amyloid‐β Pathology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies that ALKBH3‐driven m1A demethylation orchestrates Alzheimer's disease progression by disrupting mitochondrial and synaptic homeostasis. This epitranscriptomic mechanism suppresses PINK1‐mediated mitophagy via m1A erasure, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, elevated Aβ production, and impaired microglial ...

THE MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF EPSTEINBARR VIRUS PERSISTENCE IN THE HUMAN ORGANISM [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Mechnikov's Institute, 2014
This review describes advances in molecular aspects of EBV infection and disease. We discuss the spectrum of clinical illness due to EBV persistent infection.

A Murine Database of Structural Variants Identifies A Candidate Gene for a Spontaneous Murine Lymphoma Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We analyzed long‐read genomic sequencing data obtained from 40 inbred mouse strains to produce a large database of structural variants. This dataset captures the major types of structural variants, which includes deletions, insertions, duplications, and inversions.

Latency In vitro using Irradiated Herpes Simplex Virus

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1981
Human embryonic fibroblasts infected with u.v.-irradiated herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2, strain 186) and maintained at 40.5 degrees C did not yield detectable virus. Virus synthesis was induced by temperature shift-down to 36.5 degrees C. The induced virus grew very poorly and was inactivated very rapidly at 40.5 degrees C.

NIR‐II Imaging‐Guided Photothermal Activation of a TRPV4‐Targeted Nanoplatform Delivering Cycloastragenol to Promote Microglia Reprogramming and α‐Synuclein Clearance in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current therapies for Parkinson's disease (PD) fail to concurrently address α‐synuclein (α‐syn) aggregation and microglia‐mediated neuroinflammation. Herein, we engineer a near‐infrared‐II (NIR‐II) phototheranostic nanoplatform, CAG/FD1080@MM‐aTRPV4, for synergistic regulation of microglial function and real‐time monitoring of PD pathology. We

Acute HSV-1 Ocular Infection Is Impaired in KLF15 Knockout Mice but Stress-Induced Reactivation from Latency Is Prolonged in Male KLF15 Knockout Mice

open access: yesPathogens
Acute human alpha-herpesvirus 1 (HSV-1) infection culminates in a latent infection of neurons in trigeminal ganglia (TG) and the central nervous system.

Dorsal Raphe VIP Neurons Are Critical for Survival‐Oriented Vigilance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
DRNVIP neurons in mice and primates are strategically positioned to influence the central extended amygdala via feedback loops. They regulate the excitability of PKC‐δ neurons in the ovBNST and CeA through glutamate release. Their ablation heightens activity in these regions, disrupts active‐phase sleep architecture, enhances risk assessment behaviors ...
