Relationship of visceral adiposity index (VAI) and visceral body fat among metabolically obese normal weight individuals from Pakistan

open access: yesObesity Pillars
Background: An increasing number of people throughout the world are suffering with visceral obesity. Accumulation of visceral fat is a pathogenic manifestation of global fat dysfunction, that leads to inflammation, atherosclerosis, abnormal lipid levels,

The Mind From Within: Visceral Roots of Human Cognition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The physiological activity of visceral organs, such as the heart, the lungs, and the gut, is surprisingly linked to many sophisticated mental operations, such as remembering the past, being aware of ourselves, making choices, and forging social bonds.

Effects of sex and race on the changes in intrahepatic lipid, total and visceral adipose tissue in response to exercise training in obese adolescents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUD: Non-alcoholic fatty liver is the most frequent liver abnormality observed in obese children and adolescents. It is has yet to be determined whether sex and race plays a role in the effect of regular exercise without calorie restriction on ...

Gut Microbial Release of Ferulic Acid From Germinated Quinoa Alleviates Obesity‐Associated Cognitive Impairment by Activating Hippocampal Mitophagy Associated with PINK1/Parkin Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liberation of ferulic acid by gut microbial feruloyl esterase mediates cognitive enhancement of germinated quinoa (GQF) on obese mice. Ferulic acid enriched in GQF is released by gut microbes Roseburia hominis and R. intestinalis and subsequently mediates the neuroprotective effects of GQF on obesity‐induced cognitive decline by activating hippocampal ...

Subclinical decrease in cardiac autonomic and diastolic function in patients with metabolic disorders: HSCAA study

open access: yesMetabolism Open, 2020
Heart failure due to decreased diastolic function, HFpEF, is a growing health concern with rising prevalence. We examined subclinical cardiac autonomic and diastolic functions in 605 patients with metabolic diseases classified as pre-heart failure ...

A pilot investigation of visceral fat adiposity and gene expression profile in peripheral blood cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Evidence suggests that visceral fat accumulation plays a central role in the development of metabolic syndrome. Excess visceral fat causes local chronic low-grade inflammation and dysregulation of adipocytokines, which contribute in the pathogenesis of ...

SPSB1 Promotes Subcutaneous Adipose Hyperplasia in Facial Port‐Wine Stains by Controlling HDAC1 Degradation and Stability Through Two Distinct Proteolytic Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In PWS‐ASPCs, FOSL1 drives the expression of SPSB1. SPSB1, as part of the ESC complex, further binds to HDAC1 and promotes K29‐linked and K48‐linked polyubiquitination of HDAC1. These modifications facilitate the degradation of HDAC1 through the ALP and UPS pathways, respectively.

Fasting induces a subcutaneous-to-visceral fat switch mediated by microRNA-149-3p and suppression of PRDM16

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Visceral adiposity is associated with metabolic diseases, whereas subcutaneous adiposity is comparatively benign. Here, the authors report that subcutaneous adipose tissue adopts visceral-like characteristics in response to prolonged fasting, and show ...

Visceral, general, abdominal adiposity and atherogenic index of plasma in relatively lean hemodialysis patients

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2018
Background Obesity is a well-established risk factor for atherosclerosis. However, it is unknown which measure of adiposity best relates to atherosclerosis in relatively lean maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients.

Innovative Test Strip‐Based Colorimetric Sensors Integrated With Affinity Chromatography: Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor Screening Breakthrough in Lycium Barbarum Leaves

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Schematic diagrams illustrating the breakthrough in the screening of AChE inhibitors from LBL, and the research process of the pharmacodynamics of the NCP are presented. ABSTRACT Current Alzheimer's drugs exhibit limited effectiveness, highlighting the necessity for multi‐target treatments.
