Substrate Stress Relaxation Regulates Cell‐Mediated Assembly of Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone‐based viscoelastic substrates with tunable stress relaxation reveal how matrix mechanics regulates cellular mechanosensing and cell‐mediated matrix remodelling in the stiff regime. High stress relaxation promotes assembly of fibronectin fibril‐like structures, increased nuclear localization of YAP and formation of β1 integrin‐enriched ...

Development of multi-mode vibration damping device using mass spheres embedded in cuboid viscoelastic material allowing external shape change

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
This paper deals with an advanced version of eMDVA (embedded Mass Dynamic Vibration Absorber), which is a passive multi-modal damping device that was proposed by the authors.

Identification of Heredity Kernels and Their Influence on the Life Time of Glass/Polyester Composites

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2014
One of the major problems encountered in prediction of hereditary viscoelastic behavior of polymeric composites is the determination of heredity kernels.

Visuo-Haptic Discrimination of Viscoelastic Materials

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Haptics, 2019
In our daily lives, we interact with different types of deformable materials. Regarding their mechanical behavior, some of those materials lie in a range that is between purely elastic and purely viscous. This range of mechanical behavior is described as viscoelasticity.

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

VISCOELASTIC FLUID FLOW FEATURES IN THE DISK-SHAPED GAP EXTRUDER

open access: yesВісник Національного технічного університету України «Київський політехнічний інститут імені Ігоря Сікорського»: Серія «Хімічна інженерія, екологія та ресурсозбереження», 2013
Disk-shaped gap extruders have higher plasticizing and homogenizing power than screw extruders, but the forming pressure which they develop is lower. Therefore, they are mainly used as mixers or granulators for loading the prep- aration material into ...

Analyzing viscoelastic materials

open access: yes, 2022
Both deterministic modelling and data analysis are used to characterize a product line of viscoelastic cushions. Classical Kelvin-Voigt and Maxwell models are derived and solved to compare with industry supplied experimental data. A Maxwell model with a nonlinear spring is used to extract an effective viscosity for each product and used to sort the ...

Microporous Microgel Assemblies Facilitating the Recruitment and Osteogenic Differentiation of Progenitor Cells for Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
There is a significant need for biomaterials with well‐defined stability and bioactivity to support tissue regeneration. In this study, we developed a tunable microgel platform that enables the decoupling of stiffness from porosity, thereby promoting bone regeneration.
