Flexible column viscous spring damper

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1986
A viscous spring damper for damping and levelling structural agitation comprising a first outer member joined to a connecting member by a first elastomeric shear spring, the first outer member including a first fluid chamber and a first elastomeric diaphragm.

Viscous damper development and future trends

The Structural Design of Tall Buildings, 2001
AbstractViscous dampers can protect structures against wind excitation, blast and earthquakes. Viscous damper technology originated with military and aerospace applications. Approximately 10 years ago it was found that the same fluid viscous dampers that protect missiles against nuclear attack and guard submarines against near‐miss underwater ...

THE INFLUENCE OF VISCOUS DAMPERS AND BASE-ISOLATED VISCOUS DAMPERS ON ENHANCING BRIDGE PERFORMANCE IN SEISMICALLY ACTIVE AREAS

ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts
The primary objective of this research paper is to investigate the effectiveness of Viscous Dampers and Viscous Dampers with Base Isolation in bridge construction, particularly for minimizing displacement during seismic events. As seismic resilience becomes increasingly crucial in the design and construction of bridges, this study seeks to explore how ...

Mitigation of micro vibration by viscous dampers

Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration, 2009
This study proposes a micro vibration mitigation system using viscous dampers to solve the problem of vibration in a high-tech building. Due to the operating frequency of the air conditioners and fundamental mode of the floors, a resonant phenomenon is occasionally experienced at the upper levels of the structure.

Improvement of Building Resilience by Viscous Dampers

2019
In recent years, structural control strategies have been very important in earthquake and wind resistant designs in the world. In the classical period, structures were designed only for vertical loads. The modern period brought about dynamic calculation methods and applications.

Stochastic Seismic Analysis of Structures with Nonlinear Viscous Dampers

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2007
Fluid damper devices inserted in buildings or bridges are commonly used as energy sinks for seismic protection. In the response analysis of structures with filled damper devices the main problem exists in the strong nonlinear behavior of such equipment, as a consequence the differential equation of motion remains nonlinear and the response spectrum ...

The partially filled viscous ring damper

11th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1973
The problem of a spinning satellite with a partially filled viscous ring damper is investigated. It is shown that there are two distinct modes of motion, the nutation-synchronous mode and spin-synchronous mode. From an approximate solution of the equations of motion a time constant is obtained for each mode.

The Spine of the Root Locus for the Viscous Damper

Journal of Mechanical Design, 1982
At present the optimization of a vibration isolator is performed in either the time domain or the frequency domain. A new approach, for optimization in the S-plane, is outlined and performed for the viscous damper. Optimization of the viscous damper in the S-plane results in a line that is defined as the spine of the root locus.
