Waveguide Photoactuators: Materials, Fabrication, and Applications
Waveguide photoactuators convert guided light into mechanical motion. Their tethered‐flexible design enables minimally invasive surgery and confined‐space robotics. This review aims to guide materials selection, device design, and system integration, accelerating the transition of waveguide photoactuators from laboratory prototypes to versatile ...

\u27Geometric\u27 Viscous Damping Model for Nearly Constant Beam Modal Damping
This paper considers the damped transverse vibration of flexural structures. Viscous damping models available to date, such as proportional damping, suffer from the deficiency that the resulting modal damping is strongly frequency dependent, which is a ...

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.

Viscous damping of r-modes: Large amplitude saturation
We analyze the viscous damping of r-mode oscillations of compact stars, taking into account nonlinear viscous effects in the large-amplitude regime. The qualitatively different cases of hadronic stars, strange quark stars, and hybrid stars are studied ...

Three-dimensional investigation of the stokes eigenmodes in hollow circular cylinder [PDF]
http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/857821This paper studies the influence of boundary conditions on a fluid medium of finite depth. We determine the frequencies and the modal shapes of the fluid. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible and viscous.

A Soft Robotic Fish With a Dielectric Elastomer Actuator Body and Negative Stiffness Spine
This work introduces a bio‐mimetic soft robotic fish driven by fiber‐reinforced dielectric elastomer actuators integrated as its body. By prestretching this active skin against a flexible spine, a negative stiffness system is created, enabling large‐amplitude bending.

Viscous Damping of Surface Waves [PDF]
In this article, the viscous damping of surface waves in a layer of constant depth is determined. A viscous term is included in Bernoulli equation, which agrees with NavierStoke's equation as proved here.
