Visibility of uncorrelated image noise
SPIE Proceedings, 2010In this study, we evaluated the effect that pixel size has upon people's preferences for images. We used multispectral images of faces as the scene data and simulated the response from sensors with different pixel size while the other sensor parameters were kept constant.

Adaptive visible watermarking of images
Proceedings IEEE International Conference on Multimedia Computing and Systems, 2003Digital watermarks are emerging as a tool to provide copyright protection for high quality images and video. Though a lot of work has been done in the area of invisible watermarks, relatively less earlier work exists for visible watermarks. As a consensus on the various issues for invisible watermarks to be legally admissible eludes us, a visible ...

Ultraviolet and visible imaging and spectrographic imaging instrument
Applied Optics, 1994The Ultraviolet and Visible Imaging and Spectrographic Imaging experiment consists of five spectrographic imagers and four imagers. These nine sensors provide spectrographic and imaging capabilities from 110 to 900 nm. The spectrographic imagers share an off-axis design in which selectable slits alternate fields of view (1.00° × 0.10° or 1.00° × 0.05°)

Visibility of structured and unstructured images*
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1973We define a grain modulation transfer function (MTF) using unstructured grain images. This MTF is found to be similar in shape to the sine-wave MTF, but about 1/25 as sensitive. The higher sensitivity of the one-dimensional sine-wave grating is due to its highly structured pattern.

Visible/Infrared Imaging on the Rise [In the Spotlight]
IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, 2013The news media recently showed how infrared imagery aided the authorities in capturing the second Boston Marathon bomber suspect, now a significant tool in the public safety arsenal [1]. It also clearly illustrates the progress in infrared hardware technology since Desert Storm in 1991. The images shown were less grainy (noisy) and had more gray scales,

Compressing and transmitting visible human images
IEEE Multimedia, 1997We address compression and transmission issues related to images in the National Library of Medicine's Visible Human Project. In total, these images amount to about 235 Gbytes of data, challenging conventional storage, retrieval, and transmission methods. We discuss lossless and lossy methods to compress the images.

Reversible Visible Watermarking Technique for Images
2006 International Conference on Image Processing, 2006This paper proposes a reversible visible watermarking algorithm to satisfy a new application scenario where the visible watermark serves as a tag or ownership identifier, but can be completely removed at the receiver end to resume the original image data.

2021
This chapter is concerned with the acquisition, processing, and display of image data. We will first learn about the physical principles of electromagnetic waves, which include visible light (Sect. 5.2), and then discuss how cameras capture visible light images (Sect. 5.3).

Comparative visibility analysis of advertisement images
Signal Processing: Image Communication, 2011Is there any advertisement in a particular dataset more visually efficient than the rest? Here we propose that advertisement images may be rank ordered based on their important information visibility using computational attention. For each one of the advertisement images we first compute a multi-bitrate attention map following a rational model of ...

Calibration of GOES imager visible channels
Proceedings. 2005 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2005. IGARSS '05., 2005Abstract : Four options for the post-launch calibration of GOES Imager visible channel were examined, including those based on the EDF, on desert measurements, on star observations, and on MODIS data. The basic assumptions and methodologies of these options were summarized in this paper, as well as major advantages and disadvantages, from both ...
