Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

Visual Foresight with a Local Dynamics Model

open access: yes, 2023
Model-free policy learning has been shown to be capable of learning manipulation policies which can solve long-time horizon tasks using single-step manipulation primitives. However, training these policies is a time-consuming process requiring large amounts of data. We propose the Local Dynamics Model (LDM) which efficiently learns the state-transition

Visualizing local vector field topology [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electronic Imaging, 2000
Author(s): Scheuermann, Gerik; Hamann, Bernd; Joy, Ken; Kollmann, Wolfgang | Abstract: The topology of vector fields offers a well known way to show a condensed view of the stream line behavior of a vector field. The global structure of a field can be shown without time-consuming user interaction. With regard to large data visualization, one encounters

Discerning protein pools by selective staining with self‐labeling tags

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cell surface proteins have an intra‐ and extracellular pool. Combining genetic fusion to self‐labeling tags that can be addressed with small molecule fluorophores allows separating these pools. We highlight recent developments and techniques for state‐of‐the‐art interrogation of cell surface proteins in the complex tissue setting.

Intelligent Localization Sampling System Based on Deep Learning and Image Processing Technology

open access: yesSensors, 2022
In this paper, deep learning and image processing technologies are combined, and an automatic sampling robot is proposed that can completely replace the manual method in the three-dimensional space when used for the autonomous location of sampling points.

The impact of visual contextualization on UI localization [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2014
[EN] Translating the text in an interface is a challenging task. Besides the jargon and technical terms, many of the strings are often very short, such as those shown in buttons and pull-down menus. Then, as a result of the lack of visual context in the traditional localization process, an important ambiguity problem arises.

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

The folding fingerprint of visual cortex reveals the timing of human V1 and V2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Primate neocortex contains over 30 visual areas. Recent techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) have successfully identified many of these areas in the human brain, but have been of limited value for revealing the temporal ...

Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...
