Devil in the Details – Visual Perception of the Landscape Features by Potential Residential Buyers

open access: yesReal Estate Management and Valuation
It has long been established that people attach value to window views. However, the challenge in real estate market analyses is to capture what landscape features an attractive view contains and thus how they affect the worth (individual valuation) of ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Cortical and white matter mapping in the visual system- more than meets theeye: on the importance of functional imaging to understand visual systempathologies

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2014
Information transmission within the visual system is highly organized with the ultimate goal of accomplishing higher-order, complex visuo-spatial and object identity processing. Perception is dependent on the intactness of the entire system and damage at

Distinct acute zones for visual stimuli in different visual tasks in Drosophila. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster has a sophisticated visual system and exhibits complex visual behaviors. Visual responses, vision processing and higher cognitive processes in Drosophila have been studied extensively.

Neural Coding of Green Flash in Retinal Bipolar Pathways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
What visual information do the graded potentials among retinal bipolar pathways actually transmit from photoreceptors to ganglion cells? The answer does not exist. Even the graded electric signals have not been understood completely.

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Collision-avoidance and landing responses are mediated by separate pathways in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Flies rely heavily on visual feedback for several aspects of flight control. As a fly approaches an object, the image projected across its retina expands, providing the fly with visual feedback that can be used either to trigger a collision-avoidance ...

Reading aloud boosts connectivity through the putamen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Functional neuroimaging and lesion studies have frequently reported thalamic and putamen activation during reading and speech production. However, it is currently unknown how activity in these structures interacts with that in other reading and speech ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Reconciling the Neurophysiological and Cognitive Theories of Stimulus–Response Spatial Compatibility Effects: A Visual–Motor Dissociation Approach

open access: yesVision
This study investigated the differential impact of two visual dimensions (direction and spatial location) in two spatial Stroop tasks, where the relevant dimension for the response varied.
