Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

Thiamin (vitamin B1) content in phytoplankton and zooplankton in the presence of filamentous cyanobacteria

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, 2018
Top predators in several aquatic food webs regularly display elevated reproductive failure, caused by thiamin (vitamin B1) deficiency. The reasons for these low‐thiamin levels are not understood and information about the transfer of thiamin from the ...

Nanostructured drug delivery systems for posterior segment eye diseases: Strategies to defy ocular barriers

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Efficient drug delivery to the posterior segment of the eye has long been a challenging issue due to the complex ocular barriers. The review focuses on the promise held by nanoplatforms for barrier penetration and the key mechanisms involved, also highlighting their advantages in achieving efficient drug delivery and superior treatment of PSEDs ...

Analysis of the water-soluble vitamins based on MIM waveguide structure and Fano resonance

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Fano resonance (FR) is extremely sensitive to extremely small changes in the surrounding environment. We first propose an optical nano-refractive index sensor based on Fano resonance, which is applied to the identification of water-soluble vitamins B1 ...

Ethnomedicinal Uses, Phytochemistry, Pharmacological Activities, and Toxicology of the Subfamily Gomphrenoideae (Amaranthaceae): A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The subfamily Gomphrenoideae is composed of about 480 accepted species, many of which have been historically used as medicinal plants, reason why they have been studied in terms of chemical profile, biological activity, and safety. This review consolidates the advances in research on this subfamily over the past 47 years, emphasizing its ...

Processed and ultra-processed foods are associated with high prevalence of inadequate selenium intake and low prevalence of vitamin B1 and zinc inadequacy in adolescents from public schools in an urban area of northeastern Brazil

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Changes in eating behavior of adolescents are associated with high consumption of processed and ultra-processed foods. This study evaluated the association between these foods and the prevalence of inadequate micronutrient intake in adolescents.

New Terpenoids from Viguiera dentata: In Silico Pesticide‐Likeness Properties, Acetylcholinesterase Inhibition, Molecular Docking, and Evaluation against Spodoptera frugiperda

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
The chemical analysis of aerial parts of the melliferous Viguiera dentata led to the isolation of 20 substances, including the new cycloartanes 24‐epi‐argentatin C, 7β‐hydroxy‐24‐epi‐argentatin C, 7β‐hydroxy‐argentatin B. In‐combo results indicated that specific argentatins and ent‐kaurenoic acids have the potential to control Spodoptera frugiperda ...

Transcriptional profiling of embryos lacking the lipoprotein receptor SR-B1 reveals a regulatory circuit governing a neurodevelopmental or metabolic decision during neural tube closure

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2018
Background The high-density lipoprotein receptor SR-B1 mediates cellular uptake of several lipid species, including cholesterol and vitamin E. During early mouse development, SR-B1 is located in the maternal-fetal interface, where it facilitates vitamin ...
