Pyridoxal 5′‐phosphate (PLP) homeostasis relies on salvage enzymes, yet key metabolic branches remain undefined. We identify AKR1C isozymes as previously undescribed contributors that convert pyridoxal into pyridoxine or 4‐pyridoxolactone through reductase and dehydrogenase activities.

Vitamin B6, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes mellitus
Vitamin B6 is a broad term for six water-soluble vitamins that can change forms. These include pyridoxal, pyridoxine, pyridoxamine, and their 5-phosphorylated forms, which are pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (PLP), pyridoxine 5’-phosphate, and pyridoxamine 5 ...

Vitamin B6 is a critical molecule for plant metabolism and development. Rsr4‐1, a loss‐of‐function mutant in a vitamin B6 biosynthesis gene, has a distinct short root phenotype. Here we describe five novel suppressor mutants with an rsr4‐1 background that have normalized root growth and distinct phenotypic and molecular characteristics, representing a ...

Abstract Background Peripheral neuropathy associated with vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is dose and duration dependent. High‐dose vitamin B6 products associated with adverse neurological effects are available in Australia, prompting recent regulatory action to reschedule products containing ≥50 mg pyridoxine to schedule 3 (pharmacist only).
