Abstract Diets adequate or deficient in vitamin B-6 were supplemented or not supplemented with sulfasalazine and fed to rats for 5 weeks. After that time period, 24 hour urine samples were collected, rats were sacrificed, and liver and blood samples were collected.

Studies of the relative effects of growth hormone ( GH ) and vitamin B-6 on the in vivo uptake of «-"C-aminoisobutyric acid ( AIB ) in liver, diaphragm and heart of vitamin B-6-deficient rats were conducted. Generally, greater cellular uptake of AIB was observed in deficient than control rats. This increased uptake was particularly marked in liver. GH

Neuronal Development in Vitamin B6 Deficiency
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1990The morphological changes observed in developing brain regions associated with maternal vitamin B6 deficits are summarized in Table 4. Brain development is a complex and orderly process consisting of cell division, proliferation, migration, and maturation.

Vitamin B−6 deficiency vs folate deficiency: comparison of responses to methionine loading in rats
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1994The plasma homocysteine response to methionine loading was assessed in vitamin B-6- and folate-deficient rats. Rats fed vitamin B-6- or folate-deficient diets for 4 wk were administered a gastric gavage of methionine (100 mg/kg body wt). Subsequent plasma analyses revealed a peak post-methionine load increase in plasma homocysteine concentration of ...

The in vitro conjugation of labelled free cholic acid with glycine and taurine in the livers of vitamin B6-deficient and pair-fed rats has been investigated. It appears from these results that vitamin B6-deficiency stimulates this conjugation, and some evidence is given which suggests that vitamin B6 may be responsible for the lower capacity of ...

Vitamin B-6 deficiency and renal function and structure in chronically uremic rats
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1991In preliminary studies, rats with chronic renal failure (CRF) demonstrated worsening renal function, as measured by urea clearance, when fed vitamin B-6-deficient diets. However, urea clearance is not a precise measure of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and these studies did not indicate the mechanism for the reduced GFR.

Effect of Vitamin B-6 Deficiency on Preference for Several Taste Solutions in the Rat
The Journal of Nutrition, 1979The effect of dietary-induced vitamin B-6 (B-6) deficiency on the intake of the taste solutions, sodium chloride (NaCl), sodium saccharin (NaSacc), quinine sulfate (QS), and hydrochloric acid (HCl) was studied using a 48 hour, two-bottle choice technique.

Lipid peroxidation in liver of vitamin B-6 deficient rats
The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, 1991Abstract Vitamin B-6 deficient diet fed rat showed increased lipid peroxidation reactions in liver when compared to that of control. Liver homogenate of vitamin B-6 deficient rats showed enhanced susceptibility to lipid peroxidation upon incubation with NADPH or ascorbate or t-butyl hydroperoxide.

Methionine Metabolite Excretion as Affected by a Vitamin B-6 Deficiency
1981The effect of a vitamin B-6 deficiency on the metabolism of methionine was investigated in three different studies conducted at the University of Wisconsin. In the first study, 49 days in length, six young men were subjects (1), and in the second study, 35 days in length, five young women participated (2).
