Structure‐based discovery of thiamine uptake inhibitors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 22, Page 5611-5626, November 2025.
Background and Purpose Thiamine (vitamin B1) is an essential coenzyme and catalyses various reactions in central metabolic pathways. Since mammals have lost the ability to synthesise thiamine de novo, this micronutrient has to be imported via the high affinity solute carriers SLC19A2 and A3 across the plasma membrane.

The Role of Micronutrients in Atherosclerosis: Mechanisms and Clinical Application

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 21, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Micronutrients, though required in relatively small quantities by the human body, are essential for maintaining normal physiological functions and play a crucial role in the prevention and management of various diseases. Atherosclerosis (AS) is a common chronic inflammatory condition that often presents without obvious symptoms in its early ...

PINGing Sunshine: A Review of the Evidence for Adding Non‐Filtering Photoprotective Ingredients to Sunscreens

open access: yesPhotodermatology, Photoimmunology &Photomedicine, Volume 41, Issue 6, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Photoprotective INGredients (PINGs) are non‐filtering agents that enhance the skin's intrinsic defenses against solar radiation. Acting through antioxidant, DNA repair, immunomodulatory, anti‐inflammatory, and pigmentation‐regulating mechanisms, PINGs may prevent or repair photodamage.
