Vitamin E metabolism

Molecular Aspects of Medicine, 2007
The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of vitamin E metabolism. The topics covered include: major classes of vitamin E metabolites; their production pathways and route of excretion; possible biological activities of vitamin E metabolites; and use of vitamin E metabolites as markers of oxidant generation.

Vitamine [E. vitamins]

2018

[Vitamin A and vitamin E in dermatology].

Acta vitaminologica et enzymologica, 1985
Vitamin A is necessary to maintain the integrity and the differentiation of epithelia of the skin and adnexa. Evident deficiency of vitamin A in chronic diseases, malabsorption and liver affections may result in skin xerosis, follicular keratosis, and metaplasia of mucous membranes.

Selenium and Vitamin E

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice, 2001
Deficiency of selenium and vitamin E has recently been identified as a major health concern of sheep producers in certain regions of the United States, and familiarity with published data on these nutrients seems to be of value to small ruminant practitioners.

Vitamin E supplementation

The Lancet, 2001
Sir—In their report, Mona Boaz and colleagues1 conclude that, in haemodialysis patients who have increased oxidative stress and are at high risk of atherosclerotic complications, 800 IU vitamin E daily reduces the risk of vascular accidents, including myocardial infarction.

Vitamin E Trafficking

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2004
Abstract: The α‐tocopherol transfer protein (α‐TTP) is required to prevent vitamin E deficiency in humans and in α‐TTP null mice. Whereas α‐TTP is not required to facilitate intestinal absorption of vitamin E, it is required to maintain normal α‐tocopherol concentrations in plasma and extrahepatic tissues. α‐Tocopherol secretion from the liver in very

Vitamin E Toxicity

Archives of Dermatology, 1982
To the Editor.— The cautionary commentary by Roberts 1 on vitamin E toxicity stimulates me to record my observations. I conduct an Aging Skin Clinic at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. A rare opportunity is presented to find out what middle-class, middle-aged white women think is dietetically healthful.

Biochemistry of Vitamin E

1961
Publisher Summary The fact that vitamin E deficiency influences a wide variety of animal tissues has tended to implicate its function in some basic mechanism common to most cells. To date, the two most prominent possibilities for the mechanism of action of vitamin E in the living organism are: (1) that it functions in a protective role as an ...

Synthesis of Vitamin E

2007
Vitamin E compounds are biologically essential fat-soluble antioxidants derived from 6-chromanol. This chapter covers the representative literature on the preparation of various stereoisomeric forms and homologues of tocopherols and tocotrienols, and of respective starting materials and intermediates.

Vitamin E and the Neonate

Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1980
In 1922, Evans and Bishop 1 demonstrated the existence of a fat-soluble dietary factor that was required for reproduction in rats. Animals deficient in this factor, which was designated vitamin E, 2 ovulated and conceived normally, but fetal death and resorption occurred at some time during gestation.
