본 연구에서는 특성화고등학교에서 보통교과 교육이 어떻게 자리매김해야 하는가를 논의하고자 한다. 구체적인 연구 목적과 그에 따른 연구 질문은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학교교육의 목적과 직업교육의 목적에 대한 질문을 던지고, 그와 연계하여 특성화고등학교에서 보통교과 교육의 방향이 무엇이어야 하는가를 검토하고자 한다. 보통교과의 공식적 교육 목적은 무엇이며, 보통교과의 교육 목적에 대한 교사 및 학생의 인식은 무엇인가를 확인하고자 한다.
