Beam-stabilized optical switch using a voice-coil motor actuator
Journal of the Franklin Institute, 2011Abstract This paper presents the design, analysis, and implementation of a beam-stabilized optical switch using a voice-coil motor actuator. A closed-loop control system using a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is developed to stabilize the beam at the desired angle to maximize the optical power detected by a photodiode. Experimental

Bi-stable actuator measurement method based on voice coil motor
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2019Abstract Bi-stable actuator (BA) has been widely used in industry as an energy converter because of low power consumption. However, the holding force, start-up force and dynamic performance under load are difficult to comprehensively test by existing measurement method.

Space Mapping Optimization of a Cylindrical Voice Coil Actuator
IEEE International Conference on Electric Machines and Drives, 2005., 2005An optimal design problem of an electromagnetic actuator is formulated by defining the set of design variables, the constraints, and the optimality criterion. Solving such a problem is a difficult and time-expensive task when many variables, constraints, and conflicting objectives are involved, and when high accuracy is required.

Optimal voice coil actuators for needle-free jet injection
2014 36th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2014We present a scaling model for electrically-actuated needle free jet injectors, establishing the relationship between injection volume and motor size. Using an analytical electromagnetic model for the motor, we derive an optimal motor design, and show that this design is approximately scale-invariant.

The technology and application of voice coil actuator
2011 Second International Conference on Mechanic Automation and Control Engineering, 2011Based on the Lorentz Force Principle, voice coil actuator is a new-style versatile direct drive motors with special structure. Easy to be controlled, with high acceleration, high speed, high reliability, pony size, smooth force and fast actuation make it an ideal replacement for conventional electric motor.

Planar fabrication of a mesoscale voice coil actuator
2014 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), 2014Mesoscale robots are devices with characteristic dimensions in the centimeter to millimeter scale, with feature sizes ranging from millimeters to micrometers. Due to the physics involved in scaling down conventional motors, such robots frequently require novel approaches to actuation. Actu- ation can have a very significant effect on robot performance,

Dynamic Modeling of Voice Coil Motor-Actuated Flexible Membranes
Volume 2: Intelligent Transportation/Vehicles; Manufacturing; Mechatronics; Engine/After-Treatment Systems; Soft Actuators/Manipulators; Modeling/Validation; Motion/Vibration Control Applications; Multi-Agent/Networked Systems; Path Planning/Motion Control; Renewable/Smart Energy Systems; Security/Privacy of Cyber-Physical Systems; Sensors/Actuators; Tracking Control Systems; Unmanned Ground/Aerial Vehicles; Vehicle Dynamics, Estimation, Control; Vibration/Control Systems; Vibrations, 2020Abstract In this paper, we derive a dynamical model for a controllable flexible membrane which is point-actuated by distributed voice coil motors (VCM) connected to it. Besides the modal analysis of the membrane motion, which is the only dynamics discussed in most of related published works treating external pressures as inputs, we ...

Modeling Voice Coil Actuators with Recurrent Neural Network
2018 IEEE 27th Conference on Electrical Performance of Electronic Packaging and Systems (EPEPS), 2018In order to accurately model the behaviors of a voice coil actuator (VCA), three-dimensional (3-D) simulation is preferred over a lumped model. However, the 3-D simulation for a VCA can be very computationally expensive, which is due to the spatial discretization, the multiphysics nature, and the nonlinearities of the VCA system.

Electromagnetic actuator for voice coil
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1979An electromagnetic actuator for linear driving of movable heads of a magnetic disc unit in an information processing system. A plurality of slits or plates are provided with a magnetic pole inscribed directly on the internal surface of a permanent magnet, and increase magnetic reluctance of the magnetic path and reduce inductance of a moving coil, thus
