Experimental study and analysis of design parameters for analysis of fluidelastic instability for steam generator tubing

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2023
In this paper, the evaluation method of fluidelastic instability (FEI) of newly designed steam generator tubing in pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power plants is discussed.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Void fraction in simulated BWR fuel assembly. (I). Evaluation of cross-sectional averaged void fraction.

open access: yesJournal of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan / Atomic Energy Society of Japan, 1988
Void measurement of a vertical (4×4) rod bundle has been conducted in a steam-water two phase flow using an advanced X-ray CT scanner and a large amount of rod bundle data was obtained. It was found from the results that the cross-sectional averaged void fraction data for a rod bundle could be correlated by the Drift-Flux model and that Zuber-Findlay ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Experimental Study on Interfacial Area Transport of Two-Phase Flow under Vibration Conditions

open access: yesScience and Technology of Nuclear Installations, 2017
An experimental study on air-water two-phase flow under vibration condition has been conducted using double-sensor conductivity probe. The test section is an annular geometry with hydraulic diameter of 19.1 mm. The vibration frequency ranges from 0.47 Hz

Similitude and scale effects of air entrainment in hydraulic jumps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A hydraulic jump is characterised by some strong turbulence and air entrainment in the roller. New measurements were performed in two channels in which similar experiments with identical inflow Froude numbers and relative channel widths were conducted ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Void Fraction of Multi-Component Randomly Packed Beds with Size Distributions [Translated]†

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
Experimental measurements and computer simulation are reported on the void fraction of multi-component randomly packed beds with log-normal, log-uniform, Rosin-Rammler or Andreasen (Gaudin-Schuhmann) size distributions.

Metallicities of galaxies in the nearby Lynx-Cancer void

open access: yes, 2010
Does the void environment have a sizable effect on the evolution of dwarf galaxies? If yes, the best probes should be the most fragile least massive dwarfs.
