Voids in Real Space and in Redshift Space [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J. 470 (1996) 160-171, 1995
Using two-dimensional numerical simulations of gravitational clustering, with initial power spectra of a power-law form with index n, we compare the properties of voids in real space to their properties in redshift space. Both the void probability function (VPF) and the underdense probability function (UPF) are enhanced in redshift space.

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Topology Optimization of Lattice Support Structure for Cantilever Beams Fabricated Via Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A numerical scheme is presented to design a lattice support for metallic components additively built via laser powder bed fusion. Results show that thermal‐induced distortion can be respectively reduced by 69%, 58%, and 50% in comparison to a uniform lattice, a fully solid support, and a truss‐based lattice support.

Stress amplification in three-dimensional narrow zones created by cavities [PDF]

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics, 2012
The paper is concerned with a particular case of stress amplification arising from the proximity of a spherical cavity to the boundary of a loaded elastic solid.

The Galaxy Population In Voids: Are All Voids The Same? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The influence of under-dense environments on the formation and evolution of galaxies is studied by analysing the photometric properties of ~200 galaxies residing in voids, taken from our SDSS DR10 void catalogue up to z ~0.055. We split void galaxies into two subsamples based on the luminosity density contrast of their host voids: 'sparse void' {\delta}

A case devoid of bias: ORS voids vs. IRAS voids [PDF]

open access: yesMNRAS 313 (2000) 553, 1999
We present a comparison between the voids in two nearly all sky redshift surveys: the ORS and the IRAS 1.2 Jy. While the galaxies in these surveys are selected differently and their populations are known to be biased relative to each other, the two void distributions are similar.

Automated Detection of Voids in Redshift Surveys

open access: yes, 1996
We present a new void search algorithm for automated detection of voids in three-dimensional redshift surveys. Based on a model in which the main features of the LSS of the Universe are voids and walls, we classify the galaxies into wall galaxies and ...

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Thermal proteome profiling and proteome analysis using high‐definition mass spectrometry demonstrate modulation of cholesterol biosynthesis by next‐generation galeterone analog VNPP433‐3β in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

Unveiling the inhibitory effect of hydrogen-decorated voids and dislocation loops on the glide of edge dislocation in tungsten

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Tungsten (W), as the most promising candidate for plasma-facing materials, will experience significant irradiation hardening in nuclear fusion environment, which is originated from the formation of displacement damages, such as voids and dislocation ...
