Real‐Time and Non‐Invasive Detection of Respiratory Viral Infections Using an Intelligent Odor Monitoring System (IOMS)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An intelligent odor monitoring system integrates an IVC animal model, gas sensor array, real‐time resistance readout, and machine‐learning analysis to continuously monitor infection‐associated odor changes. The platform captures longitudinal sensor responses, distinguishes infected from healthy states, and supports early‐stage respiratory viral ...

Volatile anesthetics in preventing acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yes, 2014
ObjectiveAcute kidney injury is a common clinical complication of cardiac surgery. Volatile anesthetics have been shown to protect against it in animal experiments. Clinically, however, the effect of volatile anesthetics has been unclear.

Assessing the Feasibility of Wearable Devices for Physiological Monitoring and Heat Risk Prediction in Outdoor Agricultural Workers

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Outdoor agricultural workers experience significant heat exposure, yet few studies have evaluated whether wearable sensors can reliably measure continuous physiological responses in real field conditions. This pilot study examined the feasibility and predictive utility of core temperature, hydration, heart rate, and movement data ...

Decreasing Frontal Electroencephalogram Alpha Power and Increasing Sensitivity to Volatile Anesthetics Over 3 Surgeries Within 7 Months: A Case Report.

open access: yes, 2019
Depth of anesthesia (DoA) monitors are widely used during general anesthesia to guide individualized dosing of hypnotics. Other than age and specific drugs, there are few reports on which comorbidities may influence the brain and the resultant ...

Coverage Generosity of Novel Antirheumatic Drugs in Medicare Advantage and Stand‐Alone Part D Plans

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective We examine coverage of self‐administered disease‐modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) in Medicare Part D. Methods Using 2022–2026 Part D formulary data, we assessed coverage of the following DMARD classes that treat relapsed rheumatoid arthritis (RA): tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors, T cell costimulatory modulator, interleukin‐6 (IL ...

In silico investigation of molecular interactions of Volatile Anesthetics: Effects on phospholipid membranes and subcellular targets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The ability of anesthetics to reversibly suppress consciousness must reside in the effects exerted onto specific molecular tar- gets. Interactions between Volatile Anesthetics and the phospholipid mem- brane as well as intracellular tubulin, were ...

Phase I Metabolism of Novel Phencyclidine Derivative 3‐Cl‐PCP: In Vitro Studies With Pooled Human Liver Microsomes and Investigation of a Post‐Mortem Case

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
A fatal 3‐chloro‐phencyclidine (3‐Cl‐PCP) intoxication was investigated by analyzing postmortem samples and a pooled human liver microsomes assay. Tentative metabolite identification was performed by liquid chromatography‐quadrupole time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (LC‐QTOF‐MS). Seven phase I metabolites were identified.

Trendelenburg positioning with or without norepinephrine infusion for haemodynamic support in anaesthetised hypovolemic horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Intraoperative haemorrhage during equine anaesthesia is a rare but potentially fatal complication requiring prompt haemodynamic support. Postural manoeuvres such as Trendelenburg (TL) positioning and vasopressor support augment venous return and improve cardiac output (CO), yet their efficacy in anaesthetised hypovolemic horses ...

Volatile anesthetics depress the depolarization-induced cytoplasmic calcium rise in PC 12 cells

open access: yes, 1987
In the rat pheochromocytoma cell line PC 12, the effects of four volatile anesthetics (halothane, isoflurane, enflurane, methoxyflurane) on the K+-evoked intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) rise were investigated using the Ca2+-sensitive fluorescence dye ...

Inhaled Volatiles for Status Asthmaticus, Epilepsy, and Difficult Sedation in Adult ICU and PICU: A Systematic Review

open access: yesCritical Care Explorations
OBJECTIVES:. Inhaled volatile anesthetics support management of status asthmaticus (SA), status epilepticus (SE), and difficult sedation (DS). This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and feasibility of using inhaled anesthetics for SA, SE,
