Stirling Convertor Controller Development at NASA Glenn Research Center [PDF]

open access: yes
For nearly two decades, NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) has been supporting the development of Radioisotope Power Systems (RPS). NASA desires higher conversion efficiency RPS options that are reliable and robust with long life design. Dynamic conversion,

A modified control strategy for LCC with IGCT‐based full‐bridge submodules to solve the commutation failure issues

open access: yesIET Power Electronics
To solve the commutation failure (CF) issues in high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems based on line commutated converter (LCC), this paper proposes a hybrid solution combining the LCC inverter with the continuously controlled IGCT‐based

Impact of variable DC reactors in voltage-source converter based multi-terminal high-voltage DC transmission systems

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
A novel variable DC reactor is proposed to cooperate with DC circuit breaker (DCCB) for breaking DC fault currents, which can satisfy the requirement of fast protection in high-voltage DC grids.

Infrared light emission from atomic point contacts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Gold atomic point contacts are prototype systems to evidence ballistic electron transport. The typical dimension of the nanojunction being smaller than the electron-phonon interaction length, even at room temperature, electrons transfer their excess ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Capacitor voltage balancing control with reducing the average switching frequency in MMC

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Modular multilevel converter (MMC) has a very good application prospect in the flexible high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission, but higher self-loss will affect the efficiency and restrict the development.

Control of Dual-Opposed Stirling Convertors with Active Power Factor Correction Controllers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
When using recently-developed active power factor correction (APFC) controllers in power systems comprised of dual-opposed free-piston Stirling convertors, a variety of configurations of the convertors and controller(s) can be considered, with ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Availability assessment of voltage source converter HVDC grids using optimal power flow-based remedial actions

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2020
This study proposes a methodology for assessing the availability of voltage source converter high-voltage direct current (HVDC) grids based on the enumeration methodology of contingency analysis with N − 2 criteria and makes contributions in the ...

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.
