Voltage disturbances, waveform distortion and unbalance
IEE Colloquium on Issues in Power Quality, 1995This paper discusses voltage disturbances and their affect on sensitive-loads. The paper is not a comprehensive discussion but it details some of the troublesome aspects that have come to light during the past few years. Methods of minimising the problems caused by distortion are also discussed.

Voltage Distortion on an Electrical Distribution System
IEEE Industry Applications Magazine, 2010This article described a harmonic analysis study that determined that the proposed midfrequency welder would produce unacceptable voltage distortion on the utility electrical distribution system, especially an adjacent manufacturing facility with extensive electronic controls as well as on the house load associated with the midfrequency welder.

Distortion-free measurement of high impulse voltages
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1988It is shown that every high voltage divider has a limited bandwidth of some MHz, resulting in a limitation for the measurement of front oscillations or front-chopped lightning impulse voltages. It is pointed out that a voltage divider can be easily calibrated and can be constructed to prevent EMC-problems during impulse voltage measurement.

Measurement of Voltage, Current and Power at Distorted Waveforms
IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Magazine, 2021Electric power systems have been designed to operate under sinusoidal voltage and current conditions at power frequencies, mainly 50 Hz and 60 Hz, and by far most electrical energy transmission occurs at 50 Hz and 60 Hz. Electric utilities are responsible for providing a sinusoidal voltage to their residential, commercial and industrial customers.

Analysis of High Voltage Harmonic Distortion Measurements
2007 39th North American Power Symposium, 2007This paper provides a set of harmonic measurements at a 25 kV distribution feeder. The work was requested by a large industrial customer. A utility grade harmonic meter was used for the measurements. The data was obtained at the point of common coupling where the utility primary meters were installed.

Assessment of harmonic distortion and voltage unbalance
IEE Seminar on Power - it's a Quality Thing, 2005The talk will concentrate on the assessment of harmonic distortions and phase unbalance from polluting loads. It will cover the Stage 3 assessment of ER G5/4 including setting of harmonic emission limits. It will also include causes of phase unbalance with some examples and alternative solutions once an issue is identified. (15 pages)

Behavior of voltage transformers under distorted conditions
2016 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings, 2016Nowadays, the presence of nonlinear devices cannot be neglected either for their growing numbers or for their effect on the distribution network. In particular, these devices will produce relevant harmonics, which can cause problems such as increase of losses, over-heating in the power transformer malfunction of the circuit switch and, generally, an ...

Harmonic control in distorted voltage supply systems
6th International Conference on Power Electronics and Variable Speed Drives, 1996Robust active filter control schemes for harmonic compensation of unbalanced loads in nonideal systems with the presence of distorted and unbalanced supply are proposed. New approaches in terms of supply reference current acquisition and current switching control are proposed for single and three phase applications which ensure that the supply current ...

Nonlinear distortion voltage testing of contact surfaces
Electrical Contacts, 1988., Proceedings of the Thirty Fourth Meeting of the IEEE Holm Conference on Electrical Contacts, 1988Contact resistance, second-order distortion voltages, and DC vias voltages, which minimize distortion, are measured on a copper surface for studying surface film conditions. Platinum contact members to a copper rod and a polished surface of a single copper crystal are tested. The results are statistically indicated and shown with histograms in order to

Distortion power in systems with nonsinusoidal voltage
IEE Proceedings B Electric Power Applications, 1992The ‘distortion power’ DB, also termed ‘deformation power’, is one of the fundamental power quantities in circuits with nonsinusoidal voltages and currents, and power properties of such circuits are often specified in terms of this power. Unfortunately, it was introduced to the power theory of nonsinusoidal circuits because of substantial ...
