Intraepithelial squamous lesions of the vulva: Biologic and histologic criteria for the distinction of condylomas from vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1982
We reviewed 65 intraepithelial lesions of the vulva and distal vagina and compared the presence of koilocytosis, abnormal mitoses, and parabasal or basal nuclear enlargement with DNA microspectrophotometric distribution patterns and the presence of human papillomavirus antigen as determined by immunoperoxidase.

PRAME Expression in HPV-associated and Differentiated Vulvar Intraepithelial Neoplasia–associated Vulvar Squamous Neoplasia

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology
Preferentially expressed antigen in melanoma (PRAME) immunohistochemistry was initially used diagnostically in melanoma but is increasingly evaluated across malignancies for diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic purposes. PRAME protein acts as a dominant repressor of retinoic acid signaling and may help stratify patients for ...

P190 Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia: incidence and long term risk of vulvar squamous cell carcinoma

International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, 2019
Introduction/Background Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia’s (VIN) comprise a heterogeneous disease entity and have an ambiguous vulvar squamous cancer (VSCC) risk. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) associated VIN accounts for more than 90% of all high-grade VIN, while HPV-induced vulvar squamous cell carcinomas (VSCC) only account for 25% of all VSCCs.

GLUT1 Expression Patterns in Verruciform Acanthotic Vulvar Squamous Intraepithelial Neoplasia, HPV–Independent p53 Wild-Type Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Benign Vulvar Lesions

open access: yesModern Pathology
Verruciform acanthotic vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (vaVIN) is a rare type of human papillomavirus (HPV)-independent vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) precursor lacking aberrant p53 expression. Our recent study demonstrated GLUT1 overexpression in vulvar SCC and identified 2 distinct patterns in HPV-associated high-grade squamous intraepithelial

Presence and type of oncogenic human papillomavirus in classic and in differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia and keratinizing vulvar squamous cell carcinoma

Journal of Medical Virology, 2005
AbstractThe presence and type of oncogenic papillomavirus (HPV) in classic warty/basaloid vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia and in differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia and keratinizing vulvar squamous cell carcinoma was investigated using three techniques, that is, histology, in situ hybridization, and PCR–ELISA.

Immunohistochemical Expression of Survivin and γ-H2AX in Vulvar Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Low-Stage Squamous Cell Carcinoma

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 2011
Survivin inhibits apoptosis and is involved in the regulation of cell cycle progression and in the mitotic spindle formation. It is overexpressed in many cancers. The histone γ-H2AX is a marker of activated DNA damage and is overexpressed in different cancers and their precursor lesions. It also forms early during apoptosis. Eighty-seven formalin-fixed,

Progression of Simplex (Differentiated) Vulvar Intraepithelial Neoplasia to Invasive Squamous Cell Carcinoma

International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 2007
This prospective case study documents the development of invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) almost 40 months after initial diagnosis and treatment by wide local excision of squamous vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) of simplex (or differentiated) type.

Human Papillomavirus Infection and p16INK4a Protein Expression in Vulvar Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Invasive Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease, 2005
Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) is defined histopathologically by distinctive abnormalities of cellular maturation and differentiation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the functional properties of VIN related to expression of p16(INK4a) protein as well as to detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 by real-time polymerase ...
