Clinicopathologic diagnosis of dVIN related vulvar squamous cell carcinoma: An extended appraisal from a tertiary women's hospital

open access: yesGynecology and Obstetrics Clinical Medicine, 2023
Background: Differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (dVIN) is a non-human papilloma virus (HPV)-related high-grade precursor lesion to vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (vSCCa).

HPV infection and intraepithelial lesions from the anal region: how to diagnose?

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
In the last years, the prevalence of HPV infection in the anal region has increased, especially in some groups like homosexual and HIV-positive people.

Human papillomavirus persistence and clearance in women living with HIV: A five‐year retrospective analysis from an Italian university center

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 105, Issue 10, Page 2041-2047, October 2026.
In women living with HIV, HPV clearance occurred after a mean of approximately 2 years under antiretroviral therapy. Baseline positivity for the high‐risk HPV pool was associated with delayed clearance, suggesting that HPV genotype may influence viral persistence more than immunovirological status in clinically stable patients.

Immunohistochemical expression of p16 and p53 in vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia and squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva

open access: yesPathology & Oncology Research, 2006
This study was undertaken to examine the expression of p16 and p53 in vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the vulva. We also analyzed the relationship between p16 and p53 immunoexpression in women younger vs. older than 55 years of age.

Long‐term outcome of ablation for anal HSIL: Achieving HSIL‐free status is key—A UK‐based retrospective cohort study

open access: yesColorectal Disease, Volume 28, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Introduction Treating anal high‐grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) reduces squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) rates in high‐risk groups such as men having sex with men (MSM), especially those living with HIV (LWH). Follow‐up data after HSIL treatment is lacking.

Differentiated Vulvar Intraepithelial Neoplasia-like and Lichen Sclerosus-like Lesions in HPV-associated Squamous Cell Carcinomas of the Vulva [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Most human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated vulvar squamous cell carcinomas (VSCCs) originate from high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions, also named usual type vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia ...

Clinicopathologic Diagnosis of Differentiated Vulvar Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Vulvar Aberrant Maturation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to describe the demographic, clinical, and histopathologic features of differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (dVIN) and vulvar aberrant maturation (VAM).

Pagetoid Squamous Intraepithelial Neoplasia of the Vulva as a Mimicker of Vulvar Extramammary Paget Disease: Two Cases with Basal Layer Sparing

open access: yesInternational Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2022
Human papillomavirus-associated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (high-grade squamous intraepithelial neoplasia [HSIL] or VIN of usual type) is a lesion characterized by atypia extending from the basal layer to the upper epidermis. There are only rare reports of vulvar intraepithelial morphology exhibiting a pagetoid pattern of intraepithelial ...

The most common chromosome aberration detected by high-resolution comparative genomic hybridization in vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia is not seen in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesCytogenetic and Genome Research, 2004
We analyzed genetic changes in condylomas (four cases), vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia I–III (VIN I–III, eleven cases), and primary vulvar squamous cell carcinomas (VSCC, ten cases) by high-resolution comparative genomic hybridization (HR-CGH) and flowcytometry. All samples were also human papilloma virus (HPV)-genotyped.

Differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia is often found in lesions, previously diagnosed as lichen sclerosus, which have progressed to vulvar squamous cell carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesModern Pathology, 2011
Lichen sclerosus is considered to be the precursor lesion of vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, of which only 2-5% progress to squamous cell carcinoma. Differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) has been proposed to be the direct precursor lesion, but this is a recently recognized, and a difficult to diagnose, entity, which may easily be ...
