Carbohydrates in hot water extracts of soil aggregates as affected by long-term management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Microbial carbohydrates are immediate by-products of microbial metabolism and play an important role in the formation and stabilization of soil structure.

Emulsions stabilised by whey protein microgel particles: Towards food-grade Pickering emulsions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We have investigated a new class of food-grade particles, whey protein microgels, as stabilisers of triglyceride-water emulsions. The sub-micron particles stabilized oil-in-water emulsions at all pH with and without salt.

Effects of Vegetation Restoration Patterns on Soil Water-stable Aggregates Composition and Their Stability in the Water Level Fluctuation Zone of the Heilongtan Reservoir

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao
[Objective] This study aimed at elucidating the effects of different vegetation restoration modes on soil water-stable aggregates and stability in the water level fluctuation zone (WLFZ).

Zero Tillage Systems Conserve Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi, Enhancing Soil Glomalin and Water Stable Aggregates with Implications for Soil Stability

open access: yesSoil Systems, 2021
Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) fungi form mutualistic symbiotic relationships with approximately 80% of terrestrial plant species, while producing the glycoprotein glomalin as a structural support molecule along their mycelial network.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Response of soil organic carbon and water-stable aggregates to different biochar treatments including nitrogen fertilization

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics, 2018
Recent studies show that biochar improves physical properties of soils and contributes to the carbon sequestration. In contrast to most other studies on biochar, the present study comprise a long-term field experiment with a special focus on the ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Impact of Effective Microorganisms (EM) Application on the Physical Condition of Haplic Luvisol

open access: yesAgronomy, 2020
The study set out to determine changes in the soil air-water properties, the water-stable aggregate share and organic carbon content as effects of a five-year application of effective microorganisms (EM-A).

Physical characteristics of soil under different cropping and natural system on the plain of jars, Xieng Khouang province, Laos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Conservation agriculture and direct seeding mulch-based cropping (DMC) systems greatly modify plant and soil interaction. Plants commonly provide energy that fuels biological processes and either directly or indirectly creates structure within soils ...

Photophysical characterizations of 2-(4-Biphenylyl)-5 phenyl-1,3,4- oxadiazole in restricted geometry

open access: yes, 2008
Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of nonamphiphilic 2-(4-Biphenylyl)-5 phenyl-1,3,4- oxadiazole (abbreviated as PBD) mixed with stearic acid (SA) as well as also with the inert polymer matrix poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) have been studied ...
