Mechanisms of influence of forest ecosystems on the aggregate composition and water stability of soil aggregates in the semi-arid area of southeast Ukraine

open access: yesRegulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems
Modern processes of climate change are accompanied by a number of negative factors, which include aridization, desertification, soil degradation and erosion.

Fractal Dimension of Coastal Soil Aggregates and Its Relationship with Physical and Chemical Soil Properties

open access: yesGuan'gai paishui xuebao, 2021
【Objective and objective】 Soil aggregate is a function unit commonly used to describe the impact of soil structure on soil fertility and quality. It is temporally dynamic, modulated by a myriad of biotic and abiotic factors such as wetting-drying cycles ...

Mitigation of GHGs Emission From Soils by a Catalyzed In-Situ Photo-Oxidative Polymerization of Soil Organic Matter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Agricultural lands under food and bio-energy crops, managed grass and permanent crops including agro-forestry, occupy about 40-50% of the Earth's land surface^1^. In 2005, agriculture accounted for an estimated emission of 5.1 to 6.1 GtCO2-eq/yr (10-

Structural and dynamical characteristics of mesoscopic H$^+$[H$_2$O]$_n$ clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Structural and dynamical characteristics pertaining to the solvation of an excess proton in liquid-like nanoclusters of the type [H$_2$O]$_n$ are investigated using Molecular Dynamics experiments. Three different aggregate sizes were analyzed: $n=10,$ 21

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Soil aggregation, water-holding capacity, and biological activity under no-till systems and cropping sequences in the Lao PDR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In the four southern districts (Kenthao, Paklay, Boten, and Thongmixay) of Xayabury province, the current cropping systems are based on cash crop production.

Coarse-grained simulation of amphiphilic self-assembly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present a computer simulation study of amphiphilic self assembly performed using a computationally efficient single-site model based on Gay-Berne and Lennard-Jones particles. Molecular dynamics simulations of these systems show that free self-assembly

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Stoichiometric characteristics drive the soil aggregate stability after 5 years of vegetation restoration in China

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2023
Soil stoichiometric characteristics and aggregate stability are affected by vegetation restoration in degraded land. Yet, it is not known that how the aggregate stability is related to soil stoichiometric characteristics under different vegetation ...
