A New Method for Quantitative Evaluation Concentration Polarization Under Different Conditions for the Forward Osmosis Process

open access: yesMembranes
Concentration polarization (CP) is one of the inherent problems that lowers the operating performance of forward osmosis (FO) membranes. Therefore, a quantitative evaluation of CP is vital to understand its impact on the FO process.

Investigation of Methanol Crossover and Water Flux in an Air-Breathing Direct Methanol Fuel Cell

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2015
An air-breathing direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is constructed to investigate methanol crossover and water flux by altering flow rate and concentration of methanol solution.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Airborne water vapour and wind lidar measurements of latent heat fluxes during COPS 2007

open access: yes, 2010
During the Convective and Orographically-induced Precipitation Study (COPS) in July 2007 over the Black Forest Mountains in south-western Germany, tropospheric profiles of water vapour and wind were measured with a differential absorption lidar (DIAL ...

Sediment-Water Methane Flux in a Eutrophic Pond and Primary Influential Factors at Different Time Scales

open access: yes, 2017
Water bodies are major areas for methane release. Eutrophic water bodies may promote methane flux. The sediment-water interface is the major location for methane release, and studies on sediment-water interactions are necessary to regulate methane ...

Chemical cleaning of potable water membranes: A review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The literature on chemical cleaning of polymeric hollow fibre ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes used in the filtration of water for municipal water supply is reviewed. The review considers the chemical cleaning mechanism, and the perceived

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Latent Heat Fluxes over Complex Terrain from Airborne Water Vapour and Wind Lidars

open access: yes, 2009
Tropospheric profiles of water vapour and wind were measured with a differential absorption lidar (DIAL) and a heterodyne detection Doppler wind lidar collo-cated onboard the DLR Falcon research aircraft in the past two years.

An Improved Model for Water Quality Management Accounting for the Spatiotemporal Benthic Flux Rate

open access: yes, 2023
Although water quality models provide useful interpretations for water quality management, it is critical to accurately input and simulate the flux rate, which varies with space and time.

Comparative Study for Organic and Inorganic Draw Solutions in Forward Osmosis

open access: yesAl-Khawarizmi Engineering Journal, 2017
The present work aims to study forward osmosis process using different kinds of draw solutions and membranes. Three types of draw solutions (sodium chloride, sodium formate, and sodium acetate) were used in forward osmosis process to evaluate their ...
