Informal Space in the Urban Waterscape: Disaggregation and Co-Production of Water Services

open access: yesWater Alternatives, 2014
This special issue explores the realities of water provision in 'informal' urban spaces located in different parts of the world through eight empirical, case-based papers. The collection of articles shows that formality and informality are fluid concepts

Water governance and poverty

open access: yesProgress in Development Studies, 2007
This paper engages with policy on meeting development goals for water through interventions, which promote good governance. Addressing an under-researched area, we propose a new analytical framework for understanding water governance, not as a set of abstract principles, but as interlinked processes with variable practical outcomes for poor people ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Escalating overtopping risk in dams during wartime: the case of Jebel Aulia Dam, Sudan

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications
Across the world, conflicts have disrupted dam operations, leading to water mismanagement and increased disaster potential. This study uses water balance modelling and scenario analysis to present a replicable framework for assessing flood risks in ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Climate change adaptation, flood risks and policy coherence in integrated water resources management in England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Integrated water resources management (IWRM) assumes coherence between cognate aspects of water governance at the river basin scale, for example water quality, energy production and agriculture objectives.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Optimized SVR model for predicting dissolved oxygen levels using wavelet denoising and variable reduction: Taking the Minjiang River estuary as an example

open access: yesEcological Informatics
Adequate dissolved oxygen (DO) is critical for the maintenance of aquatic ecosystems. However, predicting DO levels in regions with complex hydrological variations remains challenging.
