Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Case study on stratospheric and mesospheric concentric gravity waves generated by deep convection

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics, 2021
Concentric gravity waves (CGWs) in the middle and upper atmosphere show wave-coupling processes between the lower atmosphere and the middle and upper atmosphere.

Multi-wavelength multicast wavelength assignment algorithm for limited wavelength conversion in wavelength-division multiplexing networks

open access: yesIET Communications, 2007
The multicast wavelength assignment problem in wavelength-routed wavelength- division multiplexing networks with limited wavelength conversions is addressed. A new multi- wavelength multicast wavelength assignment (MMWA) algorithm has been developed based on the multi-wavelength assignment strategy, by allowing multiple available wavelengths in a link ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Phased-array wavelength demultiplexer withflattened wavelength response

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1994
A four-channel phased-array wavelength demultiplexer with a flattened wavelength response has been realised for the first time in InP/InGaAsP at 1.54 mu m by employing multimode output waveguides.

Spin and wavelength multiplexed nonlinear metasurface holography

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Metasurfaces, as the ultrathin version of metamaterials, have caught growing attention due to their superior capability in controlling the phase, amplitude and polarization states of light.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

A conceptual approach to material detection based on damping vibration-force signals via robot

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurorobotics
IntroductionObject perception, particularly material detection, is predominantly performed through texture recognition, which presents significant limitations. These methods are insufficient to distinguish between different materials with similar surface

Sub-wavelength grating for enhanced ring resonator biosensor.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2016
While silicon photonic resonant cavities have been widely investigated for biosensing applications, enhancing their sensitivity and detection limit continues to be an area of active research.
