Modal domains and selectivity in large square lasers
Modes in square resonators have C4v symmetry. A special set of modes in these resonators have odd parities and behave like whispering gallery modes. These quasi-whispering gallery modes have high quality factors and exhibit interesting features.

Open whispering gallery mode resonators
There are some issues with traditional whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonators such as poor light extraction and a dense mode spectrum. In this paper, we introduce a solution to these limitations by proposing open WGM (OWGM) resonators that effectively reduce the mode density and enable directional radiation through a connected waveguide at the ...

Coupling coefficients of the Spherical dielectric microresonators with whispering gallery modes
The calculation results of the Spherical dielectric microresonators coupling coefficients with whispering gallery modes are presented. Microresonator coupling coefficients as a functions of main parameters is considered. S-matrix frequency dependences of

High altitude balloon platforms positioned a thousand miles apart have been used successfully in an experiment to establish the feasibility of a technique for propagating medium length radio waves through the D layer, the lower layer of the ionosphere. The new technique is called the D‐Layer Whispering Gallery Mode because of its similarity to the ...

A scatterer‐assisted whispering‐gallery‐mode microprobe
Abstract A fiber‐based whispering‐gallery‐mode (WGM) microprobe, combining both the high optical field enhancement of the WGMs and the compact structure of the optical fiber, is highly desired for sensing and imaging. Here we report a WGM microsphere resonator coupled to a single‐mode fiber interfaced by a graded‐index lens.

This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

A shielded planar dielectric resonator with whispering gallery modes
The spectral and energy characteristics of two planar dielectric resonators (DRs), open and shielded from the curvilinear surface, excited in higher-order modes as whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in Ka-waveband are investigated.
