Card games are effective tools to enhance foundation year health and safety inductions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A series of three card games was developed to actively deliver health and safety education to foundation year students. Most students reported positive responses regarding their enjoyment (89.9 %) and learning (74.7 %) from all games evaluated. Data revealed significant improvements in health and safety knowledge (P < 0.0001).

White‐Matter Structural Connectivity and Alzheimer's Disease: A Mendelian Randomization Study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior
Background Alzheimer's disease (AD) and white‐matter structural connectivity have been linked in some observational studies, although it is unknown if this is a causal relationship.

The Associations Between Chronic Active Lesions and White Matter Disease: A 7 Tesla Imaging Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The relationship between paramagnetic rim lesions (PRLs) and surrounding normally appearing white matter (NAWM) disease, potentially contributory to the associations seen between PRLs and clinical impairment, is underexplored. Objectives To assess whether PRLs correlate with a greater degree of NAWM injury in early MS.

NOTCH2NLC Repeat Expansions in Parkinsonian Disorders: Clinical and Neuroimaging Characteristics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by NOTCH2NLC GGC repeat expansions, with heterogeneous clinical manifestations, including parkinsonism. Recent studies have identified NOTCH2NLC repeat expansions in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and atypical parkinsonism (aPM), suggesting ...

In vivo 3-photon fluorescence microscopy of white matter in mouse brain excited at the 1700 nm window

open access: yesJournal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences
White matter, a densely packed collection of myelinated axons, plays an essential part in neural networks. With high spatial resolution and deep penetration, multi-photon microscopy (MPM) is promising for white matter imaging in animal models in vivo ...

Central Dysmyelination in SSADH‐Deficient Humans and Mice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency (SSADHD) is an inherited metabolic disorder characterized by an accumulation of γ‐aminobutyric (GABA). In addition to its synaptic role as an inhibitory neurotransmitter, GABA also plays an important role in myelination.
