Science, 1967Injection of dopamine before whole-body x-irradiation of mice resulted in 80 percent survivors whereas no irradiated controls survived; injection after exposure had no effect. D,L-Dihydroxyphenylalanine, the precursor of dopamine, had no effect on survival when injected either before or after irradiation.

Deoxycytidine in Urine of Humans after Whole-Body Irradiation
Science, 1963Increased levels of deoxycytidine were found in the urine of two humans during the first 24 hours after irradiation. This substance presumably was produced by the breakdown of DNA following irradiation, or resulted from interference with the synthesis of DNA.

The Effect of Heating on Susceptibility to Whole Body Irradiation in the Mouse
The British Journal of Radiology, 1964The effect of raising the environmental temperature to 37°C on the susceptibility of white Swiss mice to whole body irradiation has been studied and enhancement of effect demonstrated for all doses of irradiation in the range 300 R to 600 R. Enhancement was observed if heating preceded irradiation, but not if irradiation preceded heating.

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1964Effects of homogeneous radiation were compared to effects of inhomogeneous radiation in uremic patients irradiated in attempts to increase the receptivity of renal homografts. Homogeneous radiation was given by means of an 1800-C /sup 60/Co source, and inhomogeneous radiation from a 250-kv orthovoltage source.
