The effect of cold after whole-body irradiation of the mouse

Mice were placed in a cold environment (4 degrees C) directly after whole-body irradiation. Those irradiated with a lethal dose showed higher lethality than mice irradiated with the same dose but placed in room temperature. The response was also altered after irradiation with a sublethal dose.

In the male rat 3 days after 650 R of whole-body irradiation, intestinal transfer of glucose, galactose, and 3-o-methyl glucose in vivo was reduced, whereas sorbose transfer was increased. Only when low levels of glucose were also present was in vitro galactose transfer inhibited by radiation. Radiation depressed lactic acid production in the intestine
