Detection of canine distemper virus in cerebrospinal fluid, whole blood and mucosal specimens of dogs with distemper using RT‐PCR and immunochromatographic assays

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, 2022
Background Accurate diagnosis of canine distemper (CD), a highly contagious and acute viral disease, cannot be made solely based on clinical signs and haematological findings, but serological and molecular methods compatible with clinical signs are also ...

Burn injury differentially alters whole-blood and organ glutathione synthesis rates: An experimental model

open access: yesBurns & Trauma, 2013
Previous studies from our laboratories revealed a reduced rate of whole-blood (WB) glutathione (GSH) synthesis in severely burned patients. To determine whether WB GSH metabolism is an indicator of the status of GSH metabolism in one or more of the major

A two-miRNA signature (miR-21 and miR-92) in peripheral whole blood as a potential biomarker for diagnosis of human cerebral aneurysms

open access: yesArchives of Medical Science, 2020
Introduction microRNAs (miRs) have been reported as blood-based noninvasive indicators for the diagnosis of various diseases. However, the utility of whole blood-based miRs in the diagnosis of intracranial aneurysm (IA) is still not clear.

Therapeutic Apheresis for Intravenous Methylprednisolone‐Refractory Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: Clinical and Radiological Outcomes in a Single‐Center Case Series

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a relapsing autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. High‐dose intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) is the standard first‐line therapy for acute attacks, although some patients remain refractory.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Effects of pre-storage leukoreduction on erythrocyte concentrates and performance of newer generation leuko-filters at a tertiary care oncology hospital in Western India

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Laboratory Medicine
Background: Leukoreduction is a post-processing technique that reduces residual leukocytes in cellular blood components. Previous studies have evaluated these parameters mainly among older generation leuko-filters.
