Weibull parameters determined from a comprehensive dataset of tensile testing of single carbon fibres

open access: yesData in Brief
This data article presents tensile properties of about 1200 single carbon fibres (PYROFIL™ TRW40 50L) tested at eight different gauge lengths in the range of L0∈ [20; 80] mm with approximately 150 tested fibres for each length.

Wake behavior and control: comparison of LES simulations and wind tunnel measurements [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science, 2019
This paper applies a large-eddy actuator line approach to the simulation of wind turbine wakes. In addition to normal operating conditions, a specific focus of the paper is on wake manipulation, which is performed here by derating, yaw misalignment and ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Opportunities and Challenges of Advanced Testing Approaches for Multi-Megawatt Wind Turbines

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Power Electronics
To safely integrate large numbers of wind turbines into the electric power grid, turbines must demonstrate compliance with grid codes and technical guidelines through rigorous testing.

Effect of drop‐size parameterization and rain amount on blade‐lifetime calculations considering leading‐edge erosion

open access: yesWind Energy, 2022
Leading‐edge erosion (LEE) of wind turbine blades is caused by the impact of particles, for example, raindrops, and leads to a loss in the power production and high maintenance cost.

Efficiency and spectrum of internal gamma-ray burst shocks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present an analysis of the Internal Shock Model of GRBs, where gamma-rays are produced by internal shocks within a relativistic wind. We show that observed GRB characteristics impose stringent constraints on wind and source parameters.

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

Comparison of wind farm control strategies under realistic offshore wind conditions: turbine quantities of interest [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science
Wind farm flow control is a strategy to increase the efficiency and therefore lower the levelized cost of energy of a wind farm. This is done using turbine settings such as the yaw angle, blade pitch angles, or generator torque to manipulate the flow ...

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...
