WIND STRESS ON A COASTAL WATER SURFACE

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1972
Simultaneous measurements of horizontal wind velocity above the water surface, air and water temperature difference, and water level were made during the summer of 1971 at an exposed field site off the northwest coast of Florida. Three identical vertical arrays of six-cup anemometers were used; they were located in the surf zone, in the area between ...

DNA ligase LigE increases bacterial transformation with damaged extracellular DNA

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The DNA ligase LigE from the naturally competent Gram‐negative bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoaea increases transformation with cut extracellular DNA. This process is ATP‐dependent and relies on the catalytic activity of LigE; it also requires that LigE contains an intact periplasmic localisation sequence, indicating that ligE functions in the periplasm ...

Wind Stress Over the Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 2002
Wind stress transfers momentum between the atmosphere and the ocean. It raises waves, generates the turbulence that mixes the near surface layers of both media, and governs the transport of heat, gas, and pollutants across their interface. Controlling the low‐level, cross‐isobaric flow of moist air, wind stress determines the strength of hurricanes and

Stress-based assessment of the lifetime extension for wind turbines

open access: yes, 2022
Art. 052057, 10 S.To assess of the lifetime extension (LTE) of wind turbines, the remaining fatigue budget of different turbine components is predicted. The state-of-the-art approach to predicting the LTE uses a comparison of damage-equivalent loads (DEL)

Soft motions encoded by the fold and mediated by conserved hinge sites drive V‐ATPase allosteric machinery and autoinhibition

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacuolar H+‐ATPase (V‐ATPase) is a multisubunit rotary proton pump that acidifies intracellular compartments. Using elastic network models, we identified conserved hinge residues that govern its large‐scale functional motions. We show that intrinsically encoded ‘soft modes’ drive critical functional transitions, including rotary catalysis and ...

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Asentamiento diario de megalopas de jaibas del género Cancer en un estuario micromareal Daily settlement of Cancer crab megalopae in a microtidal estuary

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2012
El asentamiento de crustáceos decápodos en ambientes estuarinos, es la última etapa de un complejo proceso en que las especies meroplanctónicas cierran la fase de vida pelágica.

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Effectiveness of wind-constrained sea-ice momentum on formation of sea-ice distribution and upper halocline of Arctic Ocean in climate model

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Climate
Initialization of sea ice and the upper halocline in the Arctic Ocean is crucial for sea-ice prediction, but their representation in climate models still remains biased.
