Registration of ‘Dan’ Winter Hulless Barley
Journal of Plant Registrations, 2011‘Dan’ (Reg. No. CV‐346, PI 659066), a six‐rowed winter hulless barley ( Hordeum vulgare L.) that was developed and tested as VA03H‐61 by the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station, was released in March 2009. Dan was derived from the cross VA96–41–17/SC872143. It was released for production

SUMMARY Widespread damage attributed to frost lift was seen in winter barley crops in Devon and Cornwall during late spring 1978. A break in the crown root system of plants had occurred. An affected crop of cv. Astrix in Devon yielded 3.5 t/ha; this was 1.8 t/ha less than an adjacent unaffected crop of the same cultivar.

Selection for developmental responses in winter barley
The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1976SummaryA winter barley variety, from the USSR, 13031, lacking vernalization requirement but sensitive to short days and more frost resistant than varieties now commercially grown in Britain, was hybridized with Shimabara, a Japanese variety which requires vernalization but is less sensitive to short days and more susceptible to frost than 13031.
