For the drawing of wire there are four types of media which are used as lubricants; water emul‐sions, solids (soaps), non‐aqueous fluids and “pigemented” vehicles. Emulsions and some soaps, such as the alkali soaps, rely, in part, on the forma‐tion of an interfacial film of metallic soap which gives a film of reasonably high viscosity.

Drawing of square twisted wire
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1996Abstract The shape of the deformation zone during drawing of square twisted wires is described in this paper. The condition of the stable deformation of the wire is formulated. This condition is satisfied by the constant value of the pitch of the helical surface of the die.

Fast Material Working: Wire Drawing
2007The theory of fast material forming starts with the application of the Bingham model to the metal forming. It started with wire drawing, with drawing of tubes either free or with a floating plug, or with a fixed plug. The extrusion of cylindrical bars at increased temperatures, with floating glass as a lubricant, was also considered.
