Rodent monocyte‐derived macrophages do not express CD163: Comparative analysis using macrophages from living boreoeutherians

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background CD163 is a scavenger receptor predominantly expressed on the surfaces of macrophages in various mammalian species and is a marker of anti‐inflammatory (M2‐like) macrophages. High density of CD163‐positive tumor‐associated macrophages (TAMs) is associated with worse prognosis in various patient tumors.

Lean ZSF1 rats in basic research on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1474-1478, April 2025.
Abstract Aims ZSF1 obese rats harbouring two mutant leptin receptor alleles (Leprcp and Leprfa) develop metabolic syndrome and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), making them a widely used animal model in cardiometabolic research.

Syntaphilin Ubiquitination Regulates Mitochondrial Dynamics and Tumor Cell Movements. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Syntaphilin (SNPH) inhibits the movement of mitochondria in tumor cells, preventing their accumulation at the cortical cytoskeleton and limiting the bioenergetics of cell motility and invasion. Although this may suppress metastasis, the regulation of the

Semaglutide normalizes increased cardiomyocyte calcium transients in a rat model of high fat diet‐induced obesity

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1386-1397, April 2025.
Sequeira et al. reveal how the glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonist (GLP‐1‐RA) semaglutide restores cardiomyocyte function in rats subjected to a high‐fat/high‐fructose diet (HFD). Employing fluorescence‐ and patch‐clamp technology in isolated cardiac myocytes, they demonstrate that semaglutide reverses HFD‐induced activation of L‐type calcium ...

Dopamine depletion in wistar rats with epilepsy

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
Abstract The dopamine content in cerebral structures has been related to neuronal excitability and several approaches have been used to study this phenomenon during seizure vulnerability period. In the present work, we describe the effects of dopamine depletion after the administration of 6-hidroxidopamine (6-OHDA) into the substantia nigra pars ...

CardiLect: A combined cross‐species lectin histochemistry protocol for the automated analysis of cardiac remodelling

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1398-1415, April 2025.
Abstract Background Cardiac remodelling, a crucial aspect of heart failure, is commonly investigated in preclinical models by quantifying cardiomyocyte cross‐sectional area (CSA) and microvascular density (MVD) via histological methods, such as immunohistochemistry.

Multiorgan characterization of inflammasome component expression in a rat model of advanced heart failure

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Targeting inflammasomes in heart failure (HF) might represent a novel therapeutic option. Nevertheless, previous studies focused only on myocardial inflammasome alterations, and data are scarce regarding their regulation and role in HF‐associated multiorgan dysfunction.
