RNF138‐Mediated Ubiquitination and Degradation of NS5 Restricts Tick‐Borne Encephalitis Virus Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 49, 3 September 2026.
Host‐specific compatibility between RNF138‐like proteins and flavivirus NS5 determines NS5 stability. Mammalian RNF138 but not arthropod homologs recognizes and induces conserved NS5/RdRp K48‐linked ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation, thereby restricting viral replication. Ectopic RNF138 in mice attenuates TBEV‐induced pathogenesis. (Created in

Role of NS1 and TLR3 in Pathogenesis and Immunity of WNV

open access: yesViruses, 2019
West Nile Virus (WNV) is a mosquito-transmitted flavivirus which causes encephalitis especially in elderly and immunocompromised individuals. Previous studies have suggested the protective role of the Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) pathway against WNV entry

Dengue Seroprevalence Among Blood Donors in the Lazio Region (Italy): Is There an Iceberg Beneath the Surface?

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 98, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT During 2023, dengue virus (DENV) autochthonous circulation was detected in Lazio, Italy. To investigate the magnitude of the phenomenon, anti‐DENV serological status of blood donors residing in previously affected Rome municipalities was evaluated.

Genomic characterization of a severe West Nile Virus transmission season using a single reaction amplicon sequencing approach.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases
West Nile virus (WNV) is an endemic arthropod-borne virus that has routinely caused seasonal outbreaks in the United States since it was first detected in 1999.

Dengue Virus Molecular Targets and Antiviral Drug Development: Advances, Challenges and Therapeutic Perspectives

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 33, 1 September 2026.
This narrative review analyzes DENV molecular targets, including structural proteins (C, prM/M, E), non‐structural components (NS1NS5), and host factors, alongside small‐molecule candidates in preclinical and clinical phases. Owing to high structural conservation, the NS2B‐NS3 protease and NS5 (RdRp/MTase) remain primary drug discovery focuses, while ...

Design and Synthesis of a Potent, Cell Active Purine‐Based Amidoxime Against the Dengue Virus

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 36, 22 September 2026.
Scaffold hopping from our previous indolazepinone hit exemplifies purine SP‐835G with DENV2 EC50 0.1 µM, CC50>100 µM, clogP 3.61. Docking studies support its amidine metabolite operates as an allosteric inhibitor of DENV(pro). A flexible ether linker appears pivotal for enhancing binding and activity.

Competition between Usutu virus and West Nile virus during simultaneous and sequential infection of Culex pipiens mosquitoes

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections, 2020
Usutu virus (USUV) and West Nile virus (WNV) are closely related mosquito-borne flaviviruses that are mainly transmitted between bird hosts by vector mosquitoes. Infections in humans are incidental but can cause severe disease.

Diagnosis of west Nile neuroinvasive disease in humans

open access: yesArchives of Veterinary Medicine, 2018
West Nile virus (WNV) is arbovirus distributed all around the world. In humans, 80% of infection cases are asymptomatic. In 20% of infected people, a febrile self-limiting illness is reported. WNV has the potential for fatal neuroinvasive disease.
