Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Effect of swirl on fluctuation of pressure drop in a gas–liquid slug flow

open access: yesMeasurement: Sensors, 2020
Slug flow as one of the typical two-phase flow patterns occurs widely in industry. The fluctuating phenomenon in slug flow is harmful to the pipeline system and should be suppressed.

On pooling networks and fluctuation in suboptimal detection framework

open access: yes
Motivated by biological neural networks and distributed sensing networks, we study how pooling networks – or quantizers – with random thresholds can be used in detection tasks.

Fluctuation symmetries for work and heat

open access: yes, 2006
We consider a particle dragged through a medium at constant temperature as described by a Langevin equation with a time-dependent potential. The time dependence is specified by an external protocol.

Iterative fluctuation ghost imaging

open access: yes, 2023
We present a new technique, iterative fluctuation ghost imaging (IFGI) which dramatically enhances the resolution of ghost imaging (GI). It is shown that, by the fluctuation characteristics of the second-order correlation function, the imaging ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Generalized Fokker-Planck equation and its solution for linear non-Markovian Gaussian systems

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2011
In this paper we suggest a consistent approach to derivation of generalized Fokker-Planck equation (GFPE) for Gaussian non-Markovian processes with stationary increments. This approach allows us to construct the probability density function (PDF) without

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Medium Range Order in High Aluminum Content Amorphous Alloys Measured by Fluctuation Electron Microscopy

open access: yes, 2007
High Al-content metallic amorphous alloys have an unusual devitrification behavior. Upon annealing, alloys made by a rapid quench develop a high density (>1021 m-3) of pure Al nanocrystals.
