Performance of the Bluetooth-based WPAN for multimedia communication

Proceedings EC-VIP-MC 2003. 4th EURASIP Conference focused on Video/Image Processing and Multimedia Communications (IEEE Cat. No.03EX667), 2004
In recent years, wireless ad hoc networks have been a growing area of research. Especially a Bluetooth-base Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) for multimedia communication requires more attention. The WPAN is new standard under development, as a part of the IEEE802.15 standard. This paper analyzes performance Bluetooth piconet for video transmission

Traffic allocation scheme with cooperation of WWAN and WPAN

IEEE Communications Letters, 2010
An explicit adaptive traffic allocation scheme is investigated in terms of the cooperation across wireless wide area networks (WWANs) and wireless personal area network (WPAN). The analysis and numerical simulations indicate that the proposed scheme achieves inter-networking load balance to minimize the whole transmission delay and expands the ...

CSMA/CF Protocol for IEEE 802.15.4 WPANs

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2009
Different emerging IEEE 802.15.4 wireless personal area networks (WPANs) are one solution for wireless sensor networks (WSNs), where applications are restricted by low data rate, short transmission distance, and low power consumption. The frame transmission mechanism of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, which adopts the blind random backoff mechanism, was ...

Multi-stage beamforming codebook for 60GHz WPAN

2011 6th International ICST Conference on Communications and Networking in China (CHINACOM), 2011
Beamforming(BF) based on codebook is regarded as an attractive solution to resolve the poor link budget of millimeter-wave 60GHz wireless communication. Because the number of the elements of antenna array in 60GHz increases, the beam patterns generated are more than common BF, and it causes long set-up time during beam patterns searching.

Relay selection schemes in millimeter-wave WPANs

2014 International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC), 2014
Relay devices can significantly overcome signal blockage and propagation loss characteristics of millimeter wave based wireless personal area networks (WPANs). In this paper, we consider inter and intra-group communication scenarios and proposed two relay selection schemes for each case.

Site specific WLAN and WPAN coexistence evaluation

2003 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking, 2003. WCNC 2003., 2004
Evaluating the coexistence between wireless local area networks and wireless personnel area networks is an important issue for determining usage policies for wireless devices that are collocated and sharing the same frequency spectrum. A method is presented for evaluating the impact Bluetooth piconets will have on IEEE 802.11b performance when ...

Power Controlled Concurrent Transmissions in mmWave WPANs

IEICE Transactions on Communications, 2010
This letter considers power-controlled transmission from directional antennas in mmWave wireless personal area network (WPAN) systems. The attributes of these systems are studied; these include the number of concurrent transmissions and the power consumption with different system parameters, such as the antenna's beamwidth and radiating efficiency ...

Predicting indoor performance of a 60 GHz WPAN

2013 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium, 2013
This paper looks at measurements of some indoor materials at 60 GHz and uses measurements to improve the accuracy of ray-tracing simulation for the prediction of indoor propagation. The calibrated simulation is used to help predict the link loss between devices randomly placed in a typical room scenario with various antenna configurations.

Extended energy model for the low rate WPAN

IEEE International Conference on Mobile Adhoc and Sensor Systems Conference, 2005., 2005
Energy efficiency is a major concern in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and as such power control policies play an essential component in maximizing a network's lifetime. Optimal power control policies provide the correct trade-off in balancing packet transmission reliability within the operational environment with expanded energy based on the wireless
