EP241021a: A Catastrophic Collapse/Merger of Compact Star Binary Leading to the Formation of a Remnant Millisecond Magnetar?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Observations of fast X-ray transients (FXRTs) with the Einstein Probe have successfully led to the discovery of some unusual extragalactic optical transients.

Terahertz‐Driven Ultrafast Dynamics of Rare‐Earth Nickelates by Controlling Only the Charge Degree of Freedom

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The THz drive of the Mott insulating state of a rare‐earth nickelate induces instantaneous insulator‐metal transition via quantum tunneling of valence electrons across the bandgap. This transition is pure electronic and highly non‐thermal, which may find its applications in ultrafast opto‐electronics with enhanced performance and minimal device size ...

Establishing a Connection between the Jet and the Corona in Black Hole Low-mass X-Ray Binaries

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Black hole low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) undergo outbursts, during which their brightness increases greatly for timescales of months. The X-ray accretion and radio jet properties change dramatically throughout an outburst in a broadly consistent way ...

Helios-2 Vela-Ariel-5 gamma-ray burst source position [PDF]

open access: yes
The gamma-ray burst of 28 January 1976, one of 18 events thus far detected in interplanetary space with Helios-2, was also observed with the Vela-5A, -6A and the Ariel-5 satellites.

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Testing EMRI Models for Quasi-periodic Eruptions with 3.5 yr of Monitoring eRO-QPE1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Quasi-periodic eruptions (QPEs) are luminous X-ray outbursts recurring on hour timescales, observed from the nuclei of a growing handful of nearby low-mass galaxies.

Synchrotron Radiation for Quantum Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Materials and interfaces underpin quantum technologies, with synchrotron and FEL methods key to understanding and optimizing them. Advances span superconducting and semiconducting qubits, 2D materials, and topological systems, where strain, defects, and interfaces govern performance.
