The light curve of a transient X-ray source [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1975
The Ariel-5 satellite has monitored the X-ray light curve of A1524-62 almost continuously from 40 days prior to maximum light until its disappearance below the effective experimental sensitivity. The source exhibited maximum light on Dec. 4, 1974, at a level of 0.9 the apparent magnitude of the Crab Nebula in the energy band 3-6 keV.

Transient X-Ray Sources in the Magellanic-type Galaxy NGC 4449 [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2017
Abstract We report the identification of seven transient X-ray sources in the nearby Magellanic-type galaxy NGC 4449 using archival multi-epoch X-ray observations conducted with the Chandra, XMM-Newton, and Swift telescopes over the years 2001–2013. Among them, two sources are classified as supersoft X-ray sources (SSSs) because of their

Charge Carrier Screening in Photoexcited Epitaxial Semiconductor Nanorods Revealed by Transient X-ray Absorption Linear Dichroism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Understanding the electronic structure and dynamics of semiconducting nanomaterials at the atomic level is crucial for the realization and optimization of devices in solar energy, catalysis, and optoelectronic applications.

Probing Competing Relaxation Pathways in Malonaldehyde with Transient X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Excited-state intramolecular hydrogen transfer (ESIHT) is a fundamental reaction relevant to chemistry and biology. Malonaldehyde is the simplest example of ESIHT, yet only little is known experimentally about its excited-state dynamics.

The Luminosity Phase Space of Galactic and Extragalactic X-Ray Transients Out to Intermediate Redshifts

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present a detailed compilation and analysis of the X-ray phase space of low- to intermediate-redshift (0 ≤ z ≤ 1) transients that consolidates observed light curves (and theory where necessary) for a large variety of classes of transient/variable ...

The nature of the X-ray transient MAXI J0556−332 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Phase-resolved spectroscopy of the newly discovered X-ray transient MAXIJ0556-332 has revealed the presence of narrow emission lines in the Bowen region that most likely arise on the surface of the mass donor star in this low-mass X-ray binary.

Transient Attosecond Soft-X-Ray Spectroscopy in Layered Semi-Metals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
X-ray absorption fine-structure (XAFS) spectroscopy is a well-established technique capable of extracting information about a material’s electronic and lattice structure with atomic resolution.

A transient ultraluminous X-ray source in NGC 55 [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2022
ABSTRACT Ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) are a class of accreting compact objects with X-ray luminosities above 1039 erg s−1 . The average number of ULXs per galaxy is still not well-constrained, especially given the uncertainty on the fraction of ULX transients.

INTEGRAL observations of recurrent fast X-ray transient sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Fast X-ray Transients (FXTs) are believed to be non-recurrent bright X-ray sources lasting less than a day and occurring at serendipitous positions, they can best detected and discovered by instruments having a sufficiently wide field of view and high ...
