MOXE: An X-ray all-sky monitor for Soviet Spectrum-X-Gamma Mission [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
A Monitoring Monitoring X-Ray Equipment (MOXE) is being developed for the Soviet Spectrum-X-Gamma Mission. MOXE is an X-ray all-sky monitor based on array of pinhole cameras, to be provided via a collaboration between Goddard Space Flight Center and Los ...

The Chandra ACIS Survey of M33 (ChASeM33): Transient X-ray Sources Discovered in M33

open access: yes, 2008
The Chandra ACIS Survey of M33 (ChASeM33) has acquired 7 fields of ACIS data covering M33 with 200 ks of exposure in each field. A catalog from the first 10 months of data, along with archival Chandra observations dating back to the year 2000, is ...

Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Hubble Constant Measurement from Quasiperiodic Eruptions as Electromagnetic Counterparts to Extreme Mass Ratio Inspirals

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Gravitational waves (GWs) accompanied by electromagnetic counterparts, known as bright sirens, provide a novel methodology to measure the Hubble constant ( H _0 ).

Transient X-ray sources in the galactic plane

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1978
Uhuru observations of the galactic plane indicate the presence of four X-ray sources not previously characterized as transient: MX 0836-42, A1918+14, 4U 1730-22, and 4U 1807-10. X-ray light curves as well as positional and spectral information are presented for these sources and for 4U 1908+00, a recurrent transient source. The frequency, duration, and

X-ray outbursts of AXPs and SGRs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We show that the X‐ray enhancement light curves of transient AXP∕SGRs can be reproduced by the active fallback disk model. We solve the diffusion equation for the relaxation of a disk that has been pushed back by a soft gamma‐ray burst.

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Monitoring the X-Ray Variability of Bright X-Ray Sources in M33

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a new five-epoch Chandra X-ray Observatory monitoring survey of the nearby spiral galaxy M33 which probes X-ray variability with time sampling between two weeks and four months.

Live to Die Another Day: The Rebrightening of AT 2018fyk as a Repeating Partial Tidal Disruption Event

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
Stars that interact with supermassive black holes (SMBHs) can be either completely or partially destroyed by tides. In a partial tidal disruption event (TDE), the high-density core of the star remains intact, and the low-density outer envelope of the ...

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...
