Influence of X-ray radiation on the hot star wind ionization state and on the radiative force [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hot stars emit large amounts of X-rays, which are assumed to originate in the supersonic stellar wind. Part of the emitted X-rays is subsequently absorbed in the wind and influences its ionization state. Because hot star winds are driven radiatively, the modified ionization equilibrium affects the radiative force.

Observation of Histone H2AX Phosphorylation by Radiation-Induced Bystander Response Using Titanium Characteristic X-ray Microbeam

open access: yesBiology, 2023
Radiation-induced bystander response (RIBR) is a response induced in non-irradiated cells that receive bystander signals from directly irradiated cells. X-ray microbeams are useful tools for elucidating the mechanisms underlying RIBR. However, previous X-

COVID-19 Lung Lesion Segmentation Using a Sparsely Supervised Mask R-CNN on Chest X-rays Automatically Computed from Volumetric CTs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Chest X-rays of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients are frequently obtained to determine the extent of lung disease and are a valuable source of data for creating artificial intelligence models. Most work to date assessing disease severity on chest imaging has focused on segmenting computed tomography (CT) images; however, given that CTs are ...

X-ray reflection in a sample of X-ray bright ultraluminous X-ray sources [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2010
We apply a reflection-based model to the best available XMM-Newton spectra of X-ray bright UltraLuminous X-ray (ULX) sources (NGC 1313 X-1, NGC 1313 X-2, M 81 X-6, Holmberg IX X-1, NGC 5408 X-1 and Holmberg II X-1). A spectral drop is apparent in the data of all the sources at energies 6-7 keV.

Finding Gravitational Lenses With X-rays [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
There are $\sim 1$, 0.1 and 0.01 gravitationally lensed X-ray sources per square degree with soft X-ray fluxes exceeding $10^{-15}, 10^{-14}$ and $10^{-13} ergs/s cm^{-2}$ respectively.

Quiet Sun X-rays as Signature for New Particles [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J. 607 (2004) 575-580, 2004
We have studied published data from the Yohkoh solar X-ray mission, with the purpose of searching for signals from radiative decays of new, as yet undiscovered massive neutral particles. This search is based on the prediction that solar axions of the Kaluza-Klein type should result in the emission of X-rays from the Sun direction beyond the limb with a

Effects of Low-Dose X-Ray on Cell Growth, Membrane Permeability, DNA Damage and Gene Transfer Efficiency

open access: yesDose-Response, 2020
Background: We aimed to reveal if low dose X-rays would induce harmful or beneficial effect or dual response on biological cells and whether there are conditions the radiation can enhance gene transfer efficiency and promote cell growth but without ...

Comparative study between clinical diagnosis, plain radiography and sonography for the diagnosis of nontraumatic acute abdomen

open access: yesJournal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, 2022
Background: Acute abdomen is the most commonly attended surgical emergency. It can be caused by intra-abdominal, extra-abdominal and metabolic causes.

Extended range X-ray telescope [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
An X-ray telescope system is described which is comprised of a tubular mount having a collecting region remote from the one axial end. A soft X-ray/XUV subsystem associated with the collecting region directs only relatively soft, near on-axis X-rays/XUV ...
